Mustard is only good on spam and fried okra. It has no other legitimate purpose.

Oh, I’m a finiky eater. I don’t even eat hot dogs, except a Nathan’s on rare occasions. But, spam is nothing but shoulder meat. Nothing gross in it. Treat, on the other hand, is one step above cat food.

False. It’s also very good on fried squash.

I swear, half of y’all don’t know enough to keep your hose on a reel and the other half don’t know that fried squash only requires fried onions and bacon grease to be worthy of sitting on a plate beside spam.

:joy: everyone thinks it’ll be gross until they try it. Give it a whirl and see what you think

Hardwood lump charcoal…

I just got a Weber grill, first time i try charcoal, it’s true that it’s more fun than propane.

I’m really not talented at cooking but i like the outdoors, i like fire and i like meat…

I’ll find something spicy and simple to throw on there, but i’m really not enough of a multitasker to give Ikii any grill competition…

I understand that! I think he must have been a Waffle House chef in a former life or something. I’ve always used the charcoal briquets but recently discovered the hardwood lump charcoal. It’s pretty much like starting a fire on the grill, you have to move around the pieces and all that to get it all going right but it’s well worth the effort. Charcoal is where the flavor is at. I cook my steaks directly in the flames.

Ever tried just random pieces of wood (maple?) instead of charcoal? I guess it would just take longer?

I have a bag of hickory chips but haven’t tried it yet. As long as it produces heat, it’ll work. Just ask the propane guys haha. My next purchase is going to be a smoker. They can be found on Marketplace for next to nothing if you get lucky.

I have a trailer smoker in Oklahoma. Should be dragging it up here in the next few weeks. I’ll have to do some fixing on it but once it’s ready I’ll smoke some stuff and share pics on here.

I like to throw Cherry or Apple wood chunks into the charcoal grill. Either one gives a great flavor. I mainly smoke with Mesquite, Pecan and Hickory but it’s fun to change it up now and then.

Nothing beats the flavor of real charcoal

There is nothing like natural charcoal, brickets smell and leave a bad taste on the meat
I always used this

but then the grills started going bad in less than a year, quality has gone down.
So i decided to go propane…aggg…
so to compensate i turned it into ceramic.
And does not taste like propane, but hands down natural lump charcoal is better.

i might even add lava rocks on top of the ceramic

Honestly i wonder how much is real and how much is placebo in the propane vs charcoal taste debate. Like if you believe charcoal grilled tastes better then you will find it tastes better. But here i am talking about taste, the experience in itself i find easy to compare (relaxing/enjoying the process more with charcoal).

But i did keep the propane grill as it’s not often i have time for charcoal… I should try a blindfolded type taste test.

I know i know this will be considered blasphemy for some but that is my opinion.

Now i should find a way to not use 8$ of Peri-Peri sauce on three pieces of chicken as it drips down into the grill and i keep putting more on to replace it.

Propane has its advantages… it is faster and temp constant.

Blind test is good.

But brickets taste weird
