Just bought a boxtruck and could use your guys advice with setup

no offense to our grizzly affiliated associates :joy:

Iā€™m just sitting here hoping my boy will shoot something so I can get down and go pee and drink coffee

Sunrise this past weekendā€¦way too cold to be washing and wasnā€™t really warm enough to sit in the standā€¦but I did it anyways. Went back out that afternoon and it was much more comfortable. This weekend looking to be the sameā€¦too cold to be outside.

Its a balmy 9 degrees out currently. Not out in the woods though unfortunately. working on domestics with sick children and house projects.

Iā€™m warn and toasty. 28 degrees and 28 minutes of shooting time left

Hope ya see something. Iā€™ve never tagged anything myself, but I still enjoy just being out thereā€¦as long as Iā€™m warm

Get you some bootties for your boots. If my feet stay warm Iā€™m good.

Good suggestion. Usually my feet are just fine, and only go numb as I start to head back towards the truck.

So as im planning out the tank situation on my boxtruck. I am trying to get away with 3 tanks total.

100-150gal water tank (hooking up to house spigots, no cool fire hydrants here)
55 gal SH tank (would like to use one single SH tank for both roofs and DSing so two separate bulkhead fittings for that)
7 Gallon Surfactant tank.

I was thinking about using 4 tanks, the 3 above to hook into a 3 way proportioner and then a 4th tank to hold a mix of SH and soap for daily DSing but that seems crazy. My thoughts are to Use the first three tanks above, and then just drop some surfactant in the 55 gallon SH tank to DS specs anyways. That way im sort of batch mixing for DS in that same tank, and pulling extra soap from the roofs and not needing 4 tanks. Does that check out?

Also, Question about elemonatorā€¦does it expire? I know it can get old if sitting in SH, but im talking about unopened jugs of it? Since i cant buy online and have it shipped, if i buy in bulk while down south is it going to go bad on me you guys think?

Iā€™ve had it get cold and destabilize and not mix back when it was warmed up. I would go with over yā€™all for water and one for bleach. Just use it for downstream and roofs.

Iā€™d be storing it in my garage which is relatively heated. Itā€™s like 55 degrees in there currently and like 5 outside. Iā€™ve got a lot of another surfactant I use for the day, but if it sits it turns into a gross pancake batter so donā€™t want to use that in these bigger tanks that should in theory be used over multiple days

It should be fine then.

I may be leading you wrong if you donā€™t use the 55gallons with soap mixed in it in a day or two. We go thru a lot of bleach and it doesnā€™t really have time to break the bleach down

this was my thought as wellā€¦if thereā€™s anything organic in the surfactant, it will start the process and ruin your mix. We run the 3 tanks and batch mix onsite in a 5 gallon container. I may make it a dedicated 5-10 gallon mix tank if I revamp these skidsā€¦

Also, how are you going to make mix adjustments if not mixing outside the SH tank? Different injectors? I know my guys donā€™t really differentiate DS mixes, but I know many guys do.

We donā€™t make adjustments, other than to take the barb insert out of the injector once or twice a year if something is really dirty. 50 gallons of bleach and a cup or two of surfactant

I currently adjust to hotter mixes if needed by using an xjet or 12 volt depending on needed strength. I use xjet for pre and post treatment for approx 2.8% SH and roofs i start at 3% and work up from there if needed with my batches. I would think in this scenario I would adjust mix as needed using a 12v and proportioner setup

In regards to super gnarly houses, so far my little 4gpm with 7.5% SH and 10:1 DS injector has been able to handle everything ive thrown at it.

Then I guess going to an 8gpm with 12% should serve you fine as well.

We mix in a jug bc the onboard SH tank is 100 gallons, and we donā€™t blast through it quite like IBS does. But usually the guys are just filling it with SH & surfactant w/o diluting. I may have them start trying a 2:1 mis or something when it warms up, and see if we get the same results.

40 degrees with a 12 knot north wind this mornin. Good and cold but Iā€™m not sure the buffleheads were worth it lol

I donā€™t eat much of anything that has feathers, I donā€™t care for big water and donā€™t like being cold. But, if youā€™re happy, Iā€™m happy lol
