@Innocentbystander, the Hannay reels say 3000 PSI standard, does that mean it’d be a bad idea to use this with my 4000 PSI unit?
Do you have to pay extra to request a higher PSI rating when ordering one?

I figure everything has a 3 to 1 safety factor. You will hate curbside reels if you ever back into a driveway or a parking space to wash. Get a hannay for pressure and a summit for or cox for garden hose. They are easily stackable. I buy walmart garden hose and replace as needed.
Well dang, I didn’t think about that. Now I’m not sure which is better, curb side or rear side.
On Amazon, I can get a 12" wide and an 18" wide Cox reels both for $410 with FREE prime shipping. Would that be okay, or Hannay or Titan still a better option?
What do you think @squidskc since you have the Cox?
I’m in this for the long haul. Anything you buy will work for awhile. My suggestions are for things that will last the longest with the least amount of down time. My experiences are not based on what i have read or resesrched on the internet. They are based on what i have spent money on and used myself. Tens of thousands of dollars trying everything from turbo nozzles to pumps and engines. The info I give is free to use or not use. I realize starting off you might need to save money but spending another $100 bucks to get the best reel is a no brainer to me.
I agree with IBS. Roll the darn things up by hand for a couple of washes if you have to, but don’t short yourself on the reels. The difference between good and bad reels is one 1/2 assed house wash.
Realize that where you are you’ll probably use a less bleach than most of us on the East coast so aluminum or stainless may not be as important to you…
As far as where to mount, where ever you mount after using for a few months, you’ll probably wish you’d mounted somewhere else, lol. If you plan on doing mainly residential than off the side probably better, commercial I think of the rear better. Have used both, and they both work. Off the rear is a safety concern if you’re going to parking in the street.
Hurts my arm thinking I had to roll up 200’ of hose…
I’m curious, how the heck you get rock chips? They’re still mounted above trailer aren’t they?
Yeah, but they stick out almost to the width of the wheel wells. I dunno. They’re still getting beat up for whatever reason.
Mudflaps on the tow vehicle?
Thanks @Innocentbystander and @Racer. Sorry @squidskc for the repeat question. With all the great input I forgot you said that and didn’t think to read back up and look for it again. My bad.
No worries. Quoting was easier than retyping.
They’re the rigid factory ones that come on Tundras.
I use Summit reels and so far they are holding up well. My prior reels were Cox and I liked them better. I also have a GP reel which is very cheap and poorly made in my opinion and I have some no name I bought at auction. I am fanatical about maintenance and everything I own lasts practically forever so I look for mid to high level quality that with a little maintenance will provide good service.
Every Winter I take the reels apart and thoroughly clean them, deal with any rust, chips, etc…, repaint or re-coat as needed, grease or replace the bearings, put new seals in the swivels, tighten all the bolts, stuff like that. I won’t do it this year with the Summits because they only have about 200 hours of washing on them since I got them about mid season this year.
Ditto. I actually kinda enjoy the process of it.
Maintenance, other than oil changes is a time suck. Super swivels tend to last longer without touching the grease fitting for whatever reason. Said all that to say that the equipment I get that lasts the longest does so without babying, cleaning or repairs from me. I’ll weld a reel manifold one time if I can get it apart without fighting to much rust. If not, it becomes a garden hose reel.
Too short to catch rocks?
Me too, but my wife hates it because it means we almost never get anything new. I finally bought her a new Samsung stainless fridge because she was so tired of the old Kenmore that I would not let die, lol.
I’ll bet you don’t think about fire engines…
