I was willing to test it on a cheap deck knowing the homeowners intent was to replace damaged boards. I was ready to replace the whole thing if it went bad. Lol

It worked though! Homeowner was super happy.

Come out though! We can go to Nebraska.

If you’re gonna come out to tussle though just know I shave my armpits so I’m more aerodynamic when I fight.

Dad’s having heart surgery in Nebraska I the morning at 10am. I may be out there one way or the others. I don’t fight anymore. I got older, wiser, and hurt more than I used to.

I hope all goes well. Let me know if you come out.

Sorry IBS @Innocentbystander , but you’re dead wrong again because your bombasity corrals everyone into the same group., NO, using a surface cleaner isn’t the first tool for decks, but to use one doesn’t make one necessarily unprofessional, and I grow weary of your histrionics. You continue to berate those who do things differenty than you when the truth is you haven’t done many of these things personally in years. Yes, you have already forgotten more than I’ve yet to learn, and that’;s my point:I CLEANED A DECK LAST SUNDAY THAT WOULDN’T HAVE COME CLEAN WITHOUT MY SURFACE CLEANER! I would counsel you to calm the arhetoric. You penned me as the “thick-skinned philosopher with a sordid past” but my skin grows thinner when you make statements that denegrate. You’re one of the best who ever did it, but bare in mind that you aren’t the only authoritry. To belittle others is truly unprofessional.

Hey welcome back. I stand by every word of my quote and not taking the bait to get into lengthy sparring. There is a right and wrong way to do something. I’ll do it the right way and and others can do it however they like. Makes no difference to me unless they ask for advice.

THANKS! It’s truly professional to be able to disagree!

Check your toothpaste.

Then you did it wrong if you had to use a surface cleaner. I’m with IBS 100% on this one, including the quote. I’ve NEVER used a surface cleaner on a deck and I’ve done some pretty bad ones.

Aw man, I thought I was good using Tom’s of Maine, looks like it has SLS :frowning:

Well, I certainly defer to the master. You’re latest video on cleaning composite decks was invaluable to me on Tuesday, and I remain grateful for your excellent tutelage and instruction. NONETHELESS, the deck I employed my surface cleaner to strip had multiple layers of algae that 4% SH couldn’t budge. Right or wrong, that surface cleaner followed by an oxalic treatment had that deck looking new, and the homeowners are much more delighted than would they had been had I left the deck looking like it did after my 1st attempt w/o the surface cleaner.

I use SC on decks no problems whatsoever.

Hope all goes well for your dad.

Can you work it in with a brush for a better result or pump spray rinse is all that is required?

I rest my case

I suppose you could use a brush if you wanted to.

good information in this thread… and some not so good

I had an eye infection recently and I noticed there was actually sodium hydroxide in my eye drops! I suspect in stuff like baby wash and toothpaste, it is just used to raise a low pH up to neutral. You aren’t actually cleaning your baby or your teeth with NaOH. @CaCO3Girl
