What's it cost to have an employee run your truck

It’s one of those things that seemed like a good idea at the time and just went with it. To me it seemed easier than learning correctly. Obviously it was a foolish thing to do. That’s the main reason I’m here. I have no issue throwing money at making my business run correctly. Like @Innocentbystander said. I need to set it up correctly before I grow it. That’s what I’m doing. I could be booked 7 days a week, but I am not because I’m scheduling out in the future so I can figure this right now before things get out of control.

I completely trust @Innocentbystander and his advice but you really need to sit down with a cpa. Forums are great so you can be pointed in the right direction but you shouldn’t just accept what’s said from some stranger on the internet. It’s great to ask questions on here so you know what to ask a cpa. We all have different business models so the same cpa will likely tell two businesses two completely different things but they will make sure you’re doing things legally.

I don’t think you know why you’re here. You ask how much it costs to have an employee and get an answer but say no no that’s not what you wanted.

Then you ask what’s the cost for just insurances, etc and get an answer but no no that’s not what you wanted either.

Then you say no no not including wages or insurance or workman’s comp or benefits.

I don’t even know what you’re asking for. I can’t think of any other significant cost associated with having an employee that’s not wages, insurance, comp, or benefits.

Use your own brain and figure out the answer to these basic questions you’re asking. You can literally google “Payroll Service”, choose one, and in a day or so probably be ready to pay employees legally.

I’m really starting to think this guy is a troll why would anyone want to give advice to a guy who will not even do the work himself. My brother is exactly like you to lazy to actually learn how to do it. But expects to be paid like a pro. His nickname is Skip-A-Step.Dont get me wrong I have zero problem helping those who help themselves. I cant stand people who think they dont have to pay there dues

I wish i could ad some insight to this thread but i really cant follow the op’s questions. How can you not include the actual wages when factoring costs?

The cost will vary greatly from company to company.

How much do you pay your Tech? 10-25? That’s over 50% difference +-.

Workmans comp cost is calculated by how much payroll is. How much do you pay your employee(s)? How many hours? It also varies from state to state.

Liability insurance is also affected when you add an employee. At least mine was. When I added 1 employee my insurance when from $65 to $160.

There’s other cost such as uniforms, added ppe, etc.

I’m probably overlooking some stuff but the important part of it all is this. You have to answer these questions for your particular situation and do the math. If you have the work to fill the schedule it’s the best decision you can make. It’s the best decision I have made but I’m still working a long side the employee. I’m not to the point I trust him with my reputation to work a lone. That’s one of the hardest things I have done. Transitioning and trusting someone to do the work as you would. From networking and talking to other business owners it’s a tough but necessary decision to make in order to take it to the next level of growth. But it’s not to be rushed.

It varies…but on average with wages, workmen’s comp, taxes etc I’m at about $55 per hour for two guys.

It adds up quick, you’ll learn to keep your schedule lean and less drive time.

And you’ll also learn that certain services aren’t very profitable when paying others… deck staining, deck cleaning, gutter whitening etc

You might also realize you’re not charging enough to pay a legitimate employee , might have to raise prices .

Was going to comment Because I’ve recently gone through a similar situation and have decent insight. Saw where @Innocentbystander told op to pound sand and went on to read why. The insight I will offer is get an accountant, get a CPA, set up payroll, have your employee fill out a W2, acquire workman’s comp. we can go from there. I have reached a point where if I’m aware of someone skirting around laws and regulations “to save money” both on the net and locally, I will offer ZERO help.

I got everything set up legally and stopped taking advice from people on the internet. Nothing but negative talk on here and it’s mostly a waste of time to interact. My employee does roofs and I’m making money without stepping on a ladder and everyone’s happy. If people on here don’t like that I don’t care. Thanks for your input it’s much appreciated

Honestly, if the advice isn’t helpful feel free to exit.

If we are such a waste of time then why do you ask how do I do this and how do I do that. You didn’t even even understand why your machine was air locked. Also what are you going to do when your tech makes a mistake and you dont know how to fix it or better yet when he makes a mistake are you dont even know it was a mistake because you dont have any idea what you are doing

Waste of time for this thread, you read half the stuff on this thread. It’s mostly bashing, ego flexing, and off topic talk. Kind of like when you search for stuff on here you got to read through so much garbage just to find out a poorly written answer and someone insulting another person.
