What's it cost to have an employee run your truck

I’m looking into hiring a guy to run my truck and do the work. He seems trustworthy and willing to work a couple weekends a month. What are the average costs to having an employee running your truck. I am talking cost of insurance, workman’s comp insurance etc. Not including maintenance of the machines or truck itself.

Average of $50k per employee. That’s based on $20 an hour, uniforms, matching employer contribution, etc.

Well that’s a lot. What’s the bare minimum, not including hourly rates, just insurances, etc for a 20 hour a week employee offering zero benefits.

Please keep in mind I am not at your level of success and need to penny pinch to free up time to build my business.

I think you’re trying to jump ahead way too fast. First get to a point where you need to hire an employee. Add another pressure washer and tag team houses and other work together. You should get a lot more work done in a day. If you’re drumming up enough business to where you can afford to handle the business side of things without washing make that employee your foreman and hire another guy. I don’t see it being worth it to just hire a guy for 4 days a month. At least not with the added costs of going about it the right way. You’ll probably make more money scheduling 4 less days worth of jobs and just keeping at it alone. I could see maybe hiring a part time guy working 20-30 hours a week but not 30 hours a month.

Thanks for the advice on jumping a head of myself, but you don’t know my current margins or plans for my business.

I’m currently paying people 15 to 20 an hour to work with me 1099. I can afford double that provided they do 100% of the work.

I’m looking at commission payment model where they make 60 per house. Average house is 300 to 700, roofs will be a 50 bonus.

Lol. First off paying employees as 1099 contractors is illegal. Second, no one can answer this question for you. Call your insurance agent and ask them what it would cost.

They rent my equipment from my company while they work with me it’s a stupid loop hole

Other than insurance and obviously I want to run it differently now, how should I go about this.

My bad. I was just kind of going off of your other thread when you said you have never washed a roof, wouldn’t wash them because you don’t get on ladders, and planned on hiring guys to wash them for you so thought you were somewhat new to everything. I was also basing the cost off of hiring actual employees.

We washed the roof and it went well, hired a roofer who is insured and does sub contracted work for local companies. He’s a great man… So far. He’s willing to do roofs for me and I trust his abilities. Idid end up going on that roof. It sucked and I was up there for a few minutes to inspect.

That’s why I am asking the question. I don’t know.

Man, you really need to get your business legitimate before you grow it.

Okay, well than help me out. I am insured and have an LLC. Looking to set up a W-2 employee and get workman’s comp insurance. What else am I missing. I have the funds to do what I need too.

Do you even have the experience to know if something is wrong? You’ve been given basically the same answers by different members but I’ve noticed if it’s not what you want to hear you blow it off. learn the business and learn what you’re doing before hiring someone. This business is not rocket science but things can go sideways in a heart beat if you don’t know what you’re doing which it sounds like you don’t. Quit getting ahead of yourself slow down and learn for a while. The headache of management will come soon enough. You remind me of a teenager that wants to hurry and be grown up only to find out once he is it’s not all that much fun

Then immediately quit breaking the law with 1099’s. You haven’t found a loophole. You have found a way to make it right in your mind. When jack leg contractors work without workers comp, pay their employees illegally etc, they make it harder for legitimate companies. You do all that AND ask legitimate contractors here for advice, then argue when you don’t like the answer. Pound sand.

@Innocentbystander Please listen I asked you for advice on how to make my business run correctly. I am listening to you and only you. You’re the only person here I want to model my business after. My volume of work is my concern. As for roofs, they will be put on hold because workman’s comp insurance is apparently higher with it. They may be in the future they may not. So I will ask you again, what do I need to have in place to run my business correctly.

I don’t understand how you can have such a complicated set-up where you’ve made your own employees rent your equipment from you so you can pay them as 1099 contractors to save money (not saying this “loophole” is legitimate or would hold up in an audit) but can’t figure out how to set-up a payroll service.
