What do you guys do during the winter?

Hang Christmas lights! Should do over $150,000 this year between end of Oct and Dec.10, then they all come down in Jan.

Itā€™s a lot bigger business than you might think. We got a guy here locally that only works from October to January and then takes magnets off his truck in February and takes it easy for the rest of the year. He buys the wires on spools and the big bulbs and does some pretty cool light show type stuff. So he charges a premium and then stores all their lights for the rest of the year so they donā€™t have to.

Iā€™d rather shovel horseshit for six months then hang Christmas lights for four. Iā€™m glad itā€™s working for people though.

We try to do as little as possible in winter. I donā€™t like to take our equipment out in the ice or the saltā€¦ I let the competitors wreck their equipment and its a joy to watch them run around in their rusty trucksā€¦ The only time we go out is for plumbing emergencies for existing clients.

Yep. The person that got us started in Christmas lights is in his 6 year and did a little over $400,000 last year. We buy 1000ā€™ spools of extension cord, 1000ā€™ of socket cord and 1000 LED lights at one time and usually place up tp 3 orders a week during November. It kills hunting season but itā€™s worth it.

I donā€™t think Iā€™d take $400k to miss hunting seasonā€¦ maybe 1. But thatā€™s it! Lol

I canā€™t even wrap my head around doing $400k in a month or two. That justā€¦like, whoaā€¦

150k for Christmas lightsā€¦how many guys do you have working with you?

We will run 2 crews (2-3 people per crew) and we start on our existing accounts on Oct. 15. With 2 crews we should do 8-10 houses per day.

?!?!?! Dude, you gotta get take a video of one of those installs. You guys gotta be FLYING to do 8 houses a day on short winter daylight.

Youā€™ve definit to caught my attention on this, we did a little bit of light hanging last year but after reading thru this thread and doing some research, I think I may want to dive deeper into it. If you donā€™t mind, where do you order your lights and extensions in those 1000ā€™ quantities?

Thatā€™s 4 houses per crew and in Houston days arenā€™t nearly as short as up North. We can work for 8am till about 5:30.

Iā€™m in Maryland, so I get similar daylight in the winter.

KNBExteriors, what is your email address?

Trust me; you would. After a few years you could buy your own ranch.

Thanks!

If I was you, I would work on getting your $7200 per year website down to a reasonable cost. You are paying way to much, What State do you live in? We get $150 per gutter cleaning for 1 story homes and $200 +++ for 2 story
