Why do people attack jim gamble? If you don’t agree with him you don’t have to comment that you think he’s obnoxious or sarcastic remarks about him. This is a public forum and people should follow the guidelines.

I have heard about Jim and seen his posts on various forums for years. People love him or hate him it seems. His posting here doesn’t bother me. I’m not personally interested in the kind of thing he’s offering but it does add some perspective to the forum.

This is just such a load of crap. On what planet is the owner of a pressure washing company flying out contractors and paying them almost $100k for a weekend’s work just out of the goodness of his heart? I mean, let’s assume for a second that this guy is legit and he does get $400k contracts to clean parking garages which he can do in a weekend — it’s not like anyone who works for him is going to magically come away with the ability to do the same thing. They’re just going to push a surface cleaner or spray some chems or watch it get reclaimed. It’d be like saying that my employee can magically go start his own truck washing business and win clients just because he washes with me.

It screams scam. Or maybe it’s a clever tax evasion scheme where he gets out of taxes by paying a large sum to subcontractors. Who knows.

It’s 10,000 Not 100,000

I think he was referring to the $89k figure you mentioned at one point. But that was obviously for more than just a weekend of work

Let’s just get this out of the way. He is actually flying contractors out and paying them well. $10k or so. I know one. An honest to goodness family guy.

I don’t think this should be a topic of conversation. He IS paying contractors.

The solitary thing I am interested in is, can he provide help to new folks here without feeling like he’s on defense from the very first word so we can get straight to the educational stuff.

We got off on the wrong foot. My apologies. If you can look beyond that, I would really like to know how you do your “Client Research”.

You also stated that you go straight to the Owners. Do you do the same digging for them? As much as I like the idea of being prepared for a proposal, I do not know how you can get the information that you have described.

I must be REALLY bad at searching online, because it feels weird to me to find the owner of a property and find out all the information that you mentioned. Please enlighten me.

@JimGamble I too am interested in any wisdom or information you are willing to impart. In honesty, I really do not understand your objective here but Id like to know. If teaching is your goal, Ill learn. If labor is what you seek, I dont think thats a path for me. If your selling something Im not interested.

This “sub-contractor” relationship you are describing is very illegal. You can’t have them work with your crew, with your equipment and cover all their expenses, and call that a sub contractor relationship. That won’t fly with workers comp or IRS.

(Please be nice)

Tbh, that’s a very grey area. I think that most Cable companies would have a harder time passing the IRS’ acid test with their “independent technicians”, than the arrangement Jim has with his contractors.
A couple factors in his favor:

  • he’s not using the same guys on every job
  • the contractors have their own, well established businesses, and Jim’s contracts represent a fairly small part of their income

On the flip side, I think he opens himself up to possible scrutiny by paying for meals and travel expenses. That puts him in more of an employer role. I’m sure his CPA, tax attorney, and financial advisor have given sound advice in that regard, though.

You are correct…VERY correct.

How I handle the meals is simple.

My contractors calculate their Airfare, Hotel and Meal expenses, then we ADD them to the overall contract.

So If I pay them 10,000 FOR EXAMPLE, then I ask, how much do you calculate your meal expenses would be? They give me a number…lets say 850 dollars. Then Hotel and Air, well that’s a no brainer. We get the total estimate online. If I feel that number is reasonable, we add it to the overall contract.

So 10,000 for the work… 850 for food … 600 for hotel… Airfare is 1600…So…the contract will be wrote up for 13,050 dollars and they pay for all expenses, but their base pay is 10,000 plus expenses.

If I pay them over $20,000, then they figure out what their expenses should be, not I.

I feel once you reach over the 20k with me, then you are a big boy and you need to figure it out.

Also, one thing to note.

If our agreement is from $15,000 to $80,000+… then I pay your upfront costs 3 weeks in advance, then the day after the work is released by customer as satisfactory, I pay you that day on the jobsite, not 30 or 60 days later.

If I write a check of $15,000 or more, that day, you can withdraw by the end of that business day.

Again, this has been verified by Josh Minx.

I gave him a 10,000 check, the balance owed at the end of the jobsite. He took a photo of the check and deposited in his account. The money left my account before I even got home. The fastest withdrawal I ever saw from an out of state check transaction.

I give a lot of information via Facebook Live. It is all there, hours of stuff.

I stopped posting for a while because other instructors take that information that I post, and then charge newbies for a class based on my posts. Profiting off my posts to put money in their pockets.

Then the newbie takes that information as if the Instructor new about it from day one and becomes so grateful to them. What they do not know is that instructor only has been cleaning Parking Structures since 2012 or thereabouts after I taught him some basics. Later, Standard Parking, A company that sought me out for business that I turned down, later approached this contractor, who is now an instructor.

Standard Parking has a lot of garages, but does not pay very well. This contractor is about working more while making less. He has a large Residential with lots of $350 tickets and some commercial Washing business and of course his very nice government pension. If he did not have his 120,000 dollar a year pension, he would of gone bankrupt.

Being busy is a good show, but the bottom line is the key that open up the possibilities to a good life.

I choose working less while making more and I do not have a pension.
