Type of hose for injector?

The clear vinyl reinforced 1/4" hose keeps flattening out for some reason, resulting in a draw rate somewhere around 30:1.

Can I use automotive fuel line hose? It’s going from my injector to the remote controller box.

That’s what I’m using, it keeps collapsing.

How long is hose?

Snap a pic of the current hose and location it is in

I’ll take one when I get home. The injector to valve length is about 5’. It gets very hot in my trailer so I suspect the hose is getting soft and flattening. It’s weird though, only flat about 1’ up to the control box.

Its most likely only flat when you turn the valve off due to the suction. When you turn the valve back on to soap the hose will expand again.

It’s permanently flat, I took it off the valve.

Ok here’s what is happening.

I pulled the hose out, it doesn’t just free hang like that. You can see how it’s flattened right past the control box hose barb.

I have been using Goodyear Ortac 250 for a couple of months and apart from fading the red colour where it enters chemical it has been doing the job.
SH and caustic stuff doesn’t seem to worry it and it is heaps more solid than polybraid.
Only possible drawback is it isn’t clear.

Try this

Do you have a vent in the tank

I just stick the hose in a 5 gallon pail, it’s open.

Maybe you could try a bigger filter head on drop stick, or open ended to check it first.

I’ll check the strainer later today.

As an update…

I figured out why the hose collapsed. When the valve was shut off, the injector still had some suction, and coupled with the heat inside the trailer it softened the hose and voila. This type of hose isn’t meant for suction.

I bought some sturdy fuel line, should do the trick.

Before installing that, I’d recommend taking a small piece and leaving it in a container of SH for a few days. I have a nasty feeling it will eventually break down into a gooey or brittle mess

It does

Well crap. What do you all use then?

I bet you could use some of that hdpe hose or similar. It’s harder plastic but just heat it up with a heat gun or torch to slide over barb. It is soft enough to where it comes in coils though. Think of the hose used for supply line for ice maker on your fridge just bigger. I doubt you’ll need a hose clamp but could always tighten one down while soft. You can get it at any hardware or big box store.

Think so? I’ll check into it. As long as it doesn’t collapse in the heat under vacuum, I’m game.
