I hope you’re wanting to clean a bare case. You don’t want to get anything on your internal parts. You can leave the parking hammer in but dry it off with compressed air immediately if you can. I use my low pressure gun but if you don’t have a hot PW you can use diesel or mineral spirits on it.
@marinegrunt is the transmission installed
Yes, but I’m sure you know that @dperez advice is solid, You can use degreaser first followed by an aluminum HF brightener to get it really nice looking.
I should’ve clarified better. I have it completely torn down and inside cleaned already using my parts washer. I’m talking more about the outside of the case. I pressure washed all of the grease off before starting but it still has that scale that cast aluminum gets or whatever you want to call it. I can throw the pan and pump back on it and tape up any openings to keep any water or chem from getting on the inside. I know the outside is not that big of deal but I like shiny parts.
@Firefighter4hire the transmission is out and completed gutted. I lost 3rd and 4th so I’m rebuilding it.
Is there any brightener I can get locally or something I can mix up on my own @Hotshot? What’t the good stuff you use? HF? Is there any kind of store that would sell that? I thought about just buying a soda blaster.
Oooooooo that’s what you don’t want to do oh welp. Check out some spray wheel cleaners for your acid treatment.
I pressure washed the outside of the case right when it came off the truck and plugged the vent hole, where the lines snap in, and the electrical connector. I didn’t pressure wash it after it was all torn apart. Is there anything wrong with doing that? I didn’t see any water at all inside when I pulled everything apart.
I think I have some wheel cleaner so won’t even have to leave the house. Thanks!
Fast forward to the 15 minute mark.
That makes sense. I’ve seen a few of his videos in the past. He’s always very thorough and seems to definitely know what he’s talking about.
Hydrofluoric Acid, Nasty stuff, The feds don’t like us to have it in raw form, Fellas that mix it up for me wear moon suits and got all the legal paperwork and mixers to do it, if I were you I’d go to a southern states or farm place local or a truck stop, I mix mine at 25%. They’ll call it aluminum brightener…
Hey @dperez, guess what I did today ?
Broke something
Had to get that to, the 1 wire coil isn’t making the motor run right, so I’m going back to the 4 pin coil and new key switch.
I feel like a proud poppa hahaha
That truck is awesome. I want it.

Me to! I’m just the hired hand to wash his plunder every week. He’s got all kinds of cool machines.
I love the old cabovers. I’ve been following a guy on YouTube that is restoring an old International cabover right now. He uploads almost every day too so it’s cool to see his progress.
Me as well, what I don’t like is jacking the cab up to wash the motor. lol
