Truck washing (Soaps, Tips and Tricks)

knocked out my nursery job this morning. Still waiting on getting a 2 step gun but did it with my foamer and I have to say it was easy work today, did not get the brush off the trailer once. These trucks were dirty, some had mud probably from last year still on it. After getting all the mud off I did the 2 steps with the foarmer and then rinsed and you could see the dirt falling off the trucks.

Have a moving company tomorrow that has some trucks that needs to be done before they come in to work at 9am. So I figured since I was out that I’d stop by and wash them real quick. No trucks out there. They don’t work on Sundays and I planned on showing up at 630 or so. Now I don’t know if I should, I’d hate for me to show up and the trucks are not there.

Also stopped by a couple of doors down that had 12 vehicles that could be washed weekly (F150’s, company cars/vans and some straight trucks) and placed a couple of business cards on the windshield and will be following up with tomorrow.

I’m giving you a 10 for hustle. Keep it up and keep learning, no way you won’t be successful in this business.

Always hustling, definitely no quit in me.

Woke up at midnight last night thinking about that moving company and had a hell of a time getting back to sleep so I got out of bed at 3:45. Got some coffee, grabbed my dog and drove to the moving company to see if the trucks were there. Glad I did! Did not see them working on Sunday but they must have been out. Now time to go wash some trucks

Knocked out another moving company Wednesday, 7 trucks in 3 hours (from my garage and back). Learned today that the guy was happy and has hired me to clean them every other week.

Also got an email from Ferrellgas and they want me to start cleaning once a month to start. Waiting to hear from Airgas, which sounded promising but we all know how that goes, Heartland Food Bank and Atomic Transport (extremely dirty trucks/trailers).

I have been spending around 4-7 hours a day talking to businesses about the quality of service I can provide. Problem is they are hesitant because there is another guy here in town that keeps dipping out on all these businesses. So they have decided to take their fleets to Blue Beacon instead. I thought about creating a contract where they are liable if they up and quit services without cause (■■■■■■ work by me) and include a clause where I am liable if I up and leave them high and dry, something to make them feel better and know I am in it for the long haul.

It’s actually more than 7 trucks. That is all they had on the lot that evening. Their trucks bounce from Omaha and Lincoln based on their schedules. I believe they have 10-12 total trucks. Brought them in at $35 biweekly. Told them I’d bring it down to $25 if done weekly. They are your normal moving trucks, nothing hard at all. Going to try two stepping them next time I wash them. Brushing is for the birds…

Airgas will be a nice account but I am sure I priced myself out of it like a dumbass.
Think I am a dumbass since you have an Airgas account?
So here is my official quote. Less time in between cleaning schedule means less chemicals and time to clean each piece (which I told him that is why the prices would be different for each frequency of cleaning).

2 axle straight trucks - 6 each
$70 each monthly
30% bi-weekly cleaning discount price - $49.00
50% weekly cleaning discount price - $35.00

Isuzu Box Truck - 1 each
$45
30% bi-weekly cleaning discount price - $31.50
50% weekly cleaning discount price - $22.50

Propane Tanker Truck - 1 each
$70
30% bi-weekly cleaning discount price - $49.00
50% weekly cleaning discount price - $35.00

I feel left out. I need to get an airgas account.

I feel the opposite regarding weekly/bi-weekly vs monthly. I have a monthly tanker account and if they were to switch to weekly there’s no way I could keep my prices the same, and I don’t think I would save enough time or chems to justify the price decrease.

Good info Dezmar!

I’m trying to get everyone to biweekly, but everyone wants to start at monthly and go from there. I am sure it is because they all have had that “Chuck in a truck” contractor who shows up when he wants or just plain disappears.

Weekly is great, biweekly is good. I won’t wash them after that . But we cater to the more high end rigs.

It’s official. I will be cleaning Feerellgas, had to resubmit a quote due to first one being a biweekly quote. They want to do monthly to start and they accepted my quote.

So far have Feerellgas (10-12 total pieces monthly), Black belt Movers (10-12 pieces if they are all in Omaha, otherwise 6-8 biweekly) and Yano’s Nursery (5 flatbed trucks, two front loader tractors and 3 skid steers) biweekly). Black belt shouldn’t take more than 3 hours if they are all there, Yano’s Nursery shouldn’t take more than 2 hours after the first time I clean the skid steer. No clue yet on Ferrellgas

Did Ferrellgas today for the first time. Also was the first time I was able to successfully 2 Step. WOW! Life is so much easier. Not a fan of the soap I got from my local supplier so will be looking elsewhere soon if they can’t step up their game. They did give me a 5 gallon bucket for free, it was supposed to be dilluted to 50:1 but we were not getting anything clean with it. So I said screw it and took out my proportioner and went 15:1 and the dirt started to melt away. Even had my son doing all the gun work on this truck:

Looks decent. Hot up your acid more and that aluminum will shine! Also pre post a degreaser on the front end, windows, top marker lights, mirrors, front of exaust pipes and hornes. You’ll be amazed how the bugs n film roll off and no window brushing. My 2 cents

Nope! It was already off

Did a bunch of these scrap haulers last night.

Not my favorite work but it makes for a good before and after.

Only way I can get the tires black as night, is by using degreaser. But i can make them pretty black by using the rest of my soap out of my 100’ pressure hose before rinsing. Basically upstreaming.

Are you pre treating for bugs @pressureguy ,or is the two step gun getting them bugs off the windshield and what nots etc ,on its own ?

No pre-treating. Just two-stepping and they slide right off. Occasionally will break out the brush but pretty rarely now.

That’s awesome man ! I guess I gotta break open the piggy bank and just cowboy up and purchase a two step gun. Thanks @pressureguy

First part of mine failed last week. The little mini-ball valve has a crack in it. I bought a new one from Grainger that comes in tomorrow. Hopefully it will be an easy replacement.
