Crazy is as crazy does

@Redjess lol that’s not politics that’s drug abuse. I hope she got the help she needed, poor lady.

I agree with you in your conclusion, but I think you commit error when you say belief in Jesus is mere faith. That simply isn’t true, atleast insofar as it makes belief in Jesus different from other kinds of belief.

There is plenty of evidence that Jesus was a real person, which is why the overwhelming majority of historians, regardless of religious view (or lack thereof) believe that Jesus was a real person. (The opposing view, that Jesus was a mythical figure, is the historical equivalent of the flat earth theory.) Now, there are additional propositions about Jesus that have far less support (claims of His divinity, for example) but there is evidence to support these claims. Often, people not well versed in epistemology have a faulty understanding of what “evidence” is. There is evidence for the existence of God. The only question is whether the evidence is convincing enough for a given person to believe it. I, for example, find it quite convincing.

“Spiritual” truth should be treated like any other truth. If you are willing to believe spiritual claims on faith alone, then you should be willing to believe any other claim on faith alone, otherwise hypocrisy is at play. Faith-based belief in God is no different than faith-based belief in Allah or Zeus. We must be consistent in our standards of belief. If we disbelieve in one religion or one statement for X reason, then we should be willing to disbelieve in any other claim (including Christianity) for the same X reason, if it applies.

The problem with images like this is it ignores the fact that some people WANT more income taxes, yes, eve on themselves. Some people WANT gun control. Some people WANT the coal and gas industry to die. Some people don’t want the wall to be finished (if it has even been started?)

Honestly, the party’s have such different visions for the kind of country they want to live in that I think it makes more sense to talk secession than votes and elections. I don’t want to live in a world where half my income is taken to pay for single-payer healthcare. I also don’t want to force someone to live in my kind of country if they want a different one.

Edit: @BadPressCovfefe

I do not agree with your logic.

Democracy by definition is rule of the majority, so some people(minority) will always have to accept things they do not agree with - this is no reason for secession(nevermind that it will only help our enemies).

The problem with our democracy is that it is broken - the elected officials on both sides largely serve themselves and the people paying for their election campaigns(a very small minority), and not the people of our country.

One additional bad aspect of our current highly polarized system is the “wholesale politics” - some issues are simply bundled with your party of choice, but their outcome would be different, if they were put to a referendum.

I suppose you are correct, or at least reasonable. Some people always lose out. It’s tempting to just want everyone to go their separate ways when the mere two parties are so completely polarized. Perhaps the polarization is really just a façade due to the media and pop-culture. My perspective of those on the left is that they all want to enact socialism or communism. This is almost certainly not accurate. It’s just that the media gives the more extreme people the most screentime.

I wasn’t referring to faith in the existence of Christ more in the relationship aspect of it. If you tell people you here from God you are looked at crazy but I believe God speaks to us and leads us if we choose to listen. It’s faith. That is all. We could go back and forth on this subject forever and men have. Just because we are each given perspective and it plays a role in our understanding of the world around us. No two men will ever agree on everything, nor should they. Thanks for the response.

I see what you mean. In what manner do you believe you hear from God?

In the small whisper in my mind. When I have thoughts to do things I normally wouldn’t do. Or when I can’t get something out of my head until I do or say whatever it is. It’s never been audible just things I know that are God. Or when I’ve been wondering or seeking for something I’ll have someone say something that has to do with the situation that they know nothing about. It’s these type things I believe He uses.
