If someone is incapable of reading and typing, I would expect them to have a very hard time running a business. I’d also expect them to have a hard time purchasing the book since, you know, you’d have to read and type to do that. You didn’t think this one through very well, Alex.
You’re having mind blindness. That you cannot imagine how some people would benefit more from guidebook than from a forum, betrays a very narrow point of view.
If you want compensation for your time here, write and publish your own guidebook. That simple.

You are really contending that a book with what like 100 pages and “written” by one dude is a more effective learning tool than this forum, that you are a moderator of, which has over roughly 14,000 members with literally centuries of combined experience? I think it is you who is blind.

To your point: the guidebook is not a substitute for the forum, but a supplement. I don’t think Heath ever meant for it to be an “alternative” per sé.
Getting through the first month or so of research can be incredibly taxing, just to get the bare basics down enough to know what to search for. The guidebook shortens the learning curve for some who might otherwise give up before ever starting.
Side thought: doesn’t @Innocentbystander charge $1000/day to let someone shadow his crew for hands on learning? I believe he used to, at least.
Everyone has different learning styles. Some require hands on, some need a back and forth discussion forum, and some people need a guidebook to get them started.
I’ll agree that this isn’t the best thread to carry this conversation on, however, in the interest of transparency and accuracy, I’m not going to call you and not let our discussion be heard by all. I’ll go on about my day and let this rest for now.
Ok. I just don’t think my tone is probably coming across the best possible through text. A lot of it I’m sure sounds argumentative. That’s not my intention. I’m not crazy about talking on the phone, but at least tone conveys a little better.
I understand that. And, I don’t mean to sound confrontational towards you or anyone else that chooses to support his actions. I don’t agree with it and I would urge anyone that is contemplating purchasing it to save their money and put in the leg work to learn this all for themselves. However, I can’t control other people or their bank accounts and if I could I wouldn’t be in this business that’s for sure.
And that’s all that really has to be said. Trying to make it some kind of moral issue, and tearing down someone’s character because they’ve made a choice we disagree with, just makes for a negative environment.
Here’s how I look at it:
Howto, self help, and “for dummies” guides take up a huge space in the non-fiction market. And they are all incredibly derivative in nature. That doesn’t mean those authors are committing plagiarism, or that they owe their sources any compensation, even if those sources came free of charge. Someone can go to the library for free and research an entire topic, make their own guidebook on the subject, and publish it for profit. The librarian or the town that funds the public library are not going to throw a fit because that person got all of their information free of charge and are now making money off of it.
I look at this forum like an interactive public library.
