I strongly disagree with the way IB conducts himself at times on the forum, but that is not a fair statement to make towards IB here.
If, for the sake of argument, only one person on the forum knew, then from Atlas’s point of view, Sparkle essentially wrote his name in caps. The problem is that the entire forum potentially knew:
So from Atlas’s point of view, i can guarantee that even though Sparkle didnt specifically name him, Atlas felt like the entire forum knew who he was talking about. Furthermore, the way Sparkle described the situation implied that he got ripped off by a scammer… thats certainly the way i took it. The statement about the parking lot implies shadiness on the part of the seller, especially when in conjunction with a negative transaction.
With all that in mind, i strongly disagree that Sparkle’s initial comment wasnt an attack on Atlas’s reputation.
There are two wildly different versions of what went down, so one person is either at worst lying, at best genuinely mistaken, or in the middle, leaving things out. Atlas’s account is very detailed, and sparkle is upset about the transaction… with those two things in mind, if i had to put a bet on how it went down i would bet on Atlas’s account.
I dont personally know either of these people. Sparkle seems to be a decent guy trying to get his life back on track, and I can recall nothing but kindness from Atlas on the forum… he has certainly helped me out with advice. Furthermore, the vouches Atlas received in this thread make it extremely hard to believe that he would intentionally scam someone, as Sparkle has directly accused him of doing here.
And let me clarify… I’m not saying that the pump didnt have legitimate issues… i have no way to know that. Im saying that I dont believe Atlas would intentionally sell a bad pump. If, for the sake of argument, the pump turned out to be bad, then i can understand why Sparkle would assume he got scammed – although that would be a harsh conclusion to jump to, right off the bat.
To be fair to Sparkle, Atlas did make a post where he discussed problems he was having with his fatboy, which would further fuel that conclusion. That post was 2.5 years old, though, so i dont know if it was the same pump… nor do i know if Atlas resolved the issue. If he was currently using the pump on jobs, then he obviously did.
If it only shoots 15’ as Sparkle says, then IMO it’s either Sparkles lack of knowledge, or a coincidence, that it crapped out when it did. In no way do i belive that Atlas would knowingly sell someone a pump that only shoots 15’.
Yes, Atlas said some pretty scathing things, but they were obviously said in the heat of the moment, as even he said. If you put yourself in his shoes, Steve, i feel it is a totally understandable reaction. When a good person has their character attacked unfairly, it’s one of the most frustrating and infuriating things to experience.
