I’m in bed every night by 7:30 at the earliest or 8 at the latest. Sleep like a log till 3. I hope I never have a dream about work or a pressure washer.

Oh I don’t dream about it! I just find myself reading stuff on this site! Just like reading everything or giving my 2¢ to new guys.

4 level parking garage and 4 ladder wells that I’m not yet prepared for. I have nightmares about miles and miles of concrete like two mirrors going on forever.

Does anyone know if Dan from YouTube is on here?

Is that a new garage?

Yeah. That’s the only reason we’re taking it. Nothing but dirt and dust.

So really no need to reclaim the water then?

I still have to call the city to find out, but we’re using blowers to get everything down to the 1st level and the construction company is using laborers to shovel it all into a dump trailer.

The project engineer has to get bids as a formality it sounds like, but the project is partly funded by Kansas City which hires using veterans preference and job has to be finished by April 1st.

One thing you will want to watch with the blowers is the silica dust! OSHA will lay the hammer down if they see you blowing concrete dust around. More information at OSHA Publications By Topic | Occupational Safety and Health Administration

Not trying to tell you what to do… just looking out for a brother!

I’ll read it this afternoon, but can you confirm either:

  1. Everyone needs to be in masks and goggles.

  2. Or is it air quality they’re worried about.

This garage is right on the missouri river. Legitimately a football field away.

A lot of both. Dust mitigation is the real ask. When using concrete saws and grinders they are wanting water attachments to eliminate dust. Not really feasible if you are wanting to utilize blowers.

A better solution may be to wash everything into piles on each level or get large dirty areas wet and use a smooth bucket skid steer to scrape it up.

Or bite the bullet and wash everything down blocking all drains (so you don’t clog them) then scoop it all up at the bottom.

You may need to run a line into the river for that supply though lol

What will get you in trouble is if someone complains to the right person that dust is pouring out of a building covering nearby cars or blowing by a sidewalk with folks on it. I don’t see an OSHA car just driving by and seeing it but that could be different in KC

This is a HUGE project. I’d fall out of my chair if they didn’t have an OSHA guy or 5 on site at all times.

There’s 2 buildings like this, 4 sides, on either side of the parking garage. There’s definitely OSHA on site.

That’s purdy! I bet you can get a lot of cleanup continued work out of that gig until the ribbon cutting!

Yea if it’s that big I’m sure they have a safety officer on site. Ask him about the dust control. It will also make you stand out above the other contractors because you are wanting to keep them out of trouble. Sometimes knowledge gets you the job, regardless of price.

@squidskc Try contacting a company with a street sweeper. My brother owns a landscaping/sweeping company and he does projects like this regularly. Once they sweep it a majority of the debris will be gone and if they want it washed down then it ll make your life much easier. Plus less dust.

Talking dust, my full time job had a big perk last summer! I had to use the JLG to hoist a pretty reporter up in the air to film the implosion of one of our buildings. Had the best seat on campus lol

Who said being a safety officer was boring?

You can watch the video I streamed live on Facebook if you search “orville Christopher Schertz Higgins”

Rent a skidsteer with sweeper attachment. $3-400 for the day. Prolly 150 more for delivery and pickup if you need it. You could knock out 85% of it alone. Just have a guy with a broom sweeping the gutter/curb stuff out where the machine can get it. Definitely where a mask.

That’s a heck of an idea. I’m sure they could do it with the skid steer they have. I’m pretty sure they still want us to wash it and 4 ladder wells though. I think they want to make a big deal out of hiring a veteran owned business.

We build parking garages and thats how we do it. The GC has there equipment people. They could rent the attachment for a day or two. No biggie. Then wash it before stripers.
