Sanitizing school playground (HELP PLEASE)

I am going tomorrow to clean the playground at my wife’s Kindergarten school.
Plastic slide, swings and other playground stuff,
Going to DS SH but what mix would be best?
Regular HW or should I make it stronger?

Bill

Is downstreaming your only option, or do you have a roof spraying rig also?

I have the roof kit too. would that work better.

You’ll want a 1% total solution plus your surfactant to sanitize with. We use our roof rig because it’s quieter and faster. Spray all metal hardware with plenty of wd-40 when you’re done. You could downstream and get that 1% if you wanted to. Just have to know your draw rate.

Thanks for the tip Austin. I’ll check it out.

1% is way to high for children’s toys. not only do you run the risk of rusting fittings, what if the soap does not get completely rinsed? Got to be more carefully around a preschool!!

I would be more around 1000 - 2500ppm, that’s about .25% or less.

We use test strips to test at levels lower than 1%

OK guys,

I did the first playground today and it was gross all black and moldyand I spent way too long rinsing to be sure I got absolutely everything off.

My next question… Is there anything I could have run the the DS at the end that would have just neutralized the bleach?
Im sure I read somewhere that AC Lockeyer had a product but I would rater DS than need to pull out the roof pump to apply.

Any thoughts.

Bill

Nice work! (no suggestions for neutralizing the SH though, sorry)

water will dilute it and sun/time will neutralize it, I dont know of a chemical neutralizer but it would be nice to have when some gets spilled in the bed of the truck

Sodium thiosulfate neutralizes bleach. But then you’re adding additional chemicals (and expense).

Dilution is the solution.
Sunlight takes care of the rest.

I heard you can ds citric acid to neutralize the sh

May sound stupid but can you tell me what 1% total solution entails? Thank you in advance

This thread is almost 5 years old. There is another member on this forum with about the same handle as you. If you post your question with a little background, I am sure the regular members on this site will be more than happy to help you out. Some of the members in these older threads don’t seem to post on here much anymore.

I know its 5 years old but people tell me search and you get an answer and this is the only thread that is similar to what i am looking for.

It’s no different than any other house wash mix. 1% Sodium Hypochlorite and a surfactant. The 1% is likely after it was down streamed through their injector so you’ll want to know what ratio your injector pulls. If you want to know exact you’ll want to do a bucket test.

Are you asking what is the 1% solution made out of or how to get 1% solution?

O jesus ya’ll, please don’t confuse us two lol
