Roof Tile Cleaning

The amount of bad information in this topic is mind blowing. I don’t even know we’re to start so I won’t bother . Hopefully it will just fade away

I love going back to this thread and checking out what it has to say. I clean about 4-5 roofs every year, always tile, and they always come out excellent. I used to only do pressure washing with a basic machine (10+ years ago), then I upgraded the machine and did several more roofs, then I added SH and a roof wash set up that I shoot before pressure washing to make it faster, then I added a turbo nozzle which works amazing, and after all this time I still go back to this thread and it makes me smile. When I was young and dumb a roof would take me two days to make $500, now it takes about 4 hours to go from awful to amazing and $800. Thanks for all of the information.

I need some guidance here. Two applications of 6% roof mix. All the algae is white but the yellow green and white liking are still very vibrant and additionally there are still black spots. What would you recommend

Two applications of 6% later… Fresh barrel of SH

That is exactly what we have here and that’s why we use SH then pressure washing, it will come out excellent.

Will any red coloration come off

I have never had a single customer complained that they have lost color from the roof. I will say that the water coming off does have some color but not enough to make any difference to anybody on the ground. If they are clay tiles then the color does not change at all.

just curious, are the other tiles some type of colored concrete? Never messed with these.

The concrete tiles are colored externally and the clay tiles are baked with the color in them is my understanding.

It’s possible depending on the product, do a small test area and do it on a couple sides, especially on the south where the sun beats on it. If it does you can give the client an option to use pressure or not. Sometimes after a good treatment you don’t need much pressure, a shooter tip may get the lichen off and you can stay in a safe place to shoot it over

I ended up rinsing with my wood cleaning tip (800 psi) did the trick. Some coloration bled but luckily the owner had red rocks all around the house so it blended in perfect and no need to bag gutters at this location. I wasn’t a fan of rinsing the roof but in this situation after 2 applications of 6%, had to. First pic is after the 6% applications btw

When you rinse you are walking that roof right? I’ve walked on a few of these while window cleaning but it sure seems like it’s asking to crack a tile. I see a few in there already chipped/cracked.

The roof is already in bad condition. Lots of cracked tiles and chips from previous contractors. You can see it in the befores

Yeah, they are for sure in the before. I was just wondering if you walked it cause it looked like the photo might have been from a lift or ladder.

It wasn’t a full tile roof, there was a flat open area in the middle like a commercial roof where I could walk
