Roof Systems, Help me decide

Will this one do, are they all the same or are there better options? I bought a pressure pro once thinking it was professional equipment but…

With the gas, how long is it safe to not cycle/spray?

This applies to any system you get. They will all give you problems at some point it’s just the nature of working with chemicals on a daily basis. You really need to set aside some money for this going forward and put it under the cost of doing business. I see many folks wanting the “ultimate” system, they’re all ultimate systems when working correctly, when that system fails they’ll move onto something else and the search for ultimate will start again with the same unavoidable problems. Key take away - money will always need to be spent on upkeep.

I have no issue investing in or maintaining equipment. Just trying to figure out which of the available tools best suits the need; spraying roofs. The honda motor issue will remedy itself one way or another so I guess its about the performance.

Roger that. I think it’s pretty hard to argue against the gas system for all round high rise roof work. I ran a couple few years ago and it was just overkill for residential here, your first post sounds like you need a bit of overkill doing roofs higher up with wind condition working against you. They flow impressive amounts considering the footprint they take up. Big flow can be a good and bad thing spraying hot mixes high up. Lugging around compressors and generators - that’s just silly in my opinion.

Yeah, it is kinda silly. I dont want to do it. More crap to fix, watch, smack my knee on… at $5.45 / gal here, light is right in the trailer. I have a hunch I will run the 12v on easy roofs anyways.

So with the AR45, what mixing valve is recommended? Is it advised to run 1/2" or 5/8" hose?

You’ll definitely find more uses with the gas pump than just roofs anyway, Killer rinsing machines for just about anything large scale provided you have the water available.

This is the system I have. Didn’t get from them but that price is in line. Have the Honda gx200 with it. Parts for the AR aren’t bad if you need. GX200 bullit proof. Shouldn’t need anything for it until you hit a bunch of hours, like thousands. Realize you’re never really running it wide open.

Rick, what mixing valve and hose do you recommend for it?

I still just batch mix. When I bought mine 3 years ago, no one really had a high flow kit out. And I’ve been waiting till I do a new trailer bill to get one, which I keep postponing because I rarely pull it unless a large roof or big job where I need multiple machines.

Gotcha. Curious, without a bypass how long can these pumps safely run?

They all have a bypass. Mine just recirculates thru mix tank and the ones with a manifold run about 20’ of hose coiled up that acts as a bypass. Someone who runs a mix manifold could be more specific on the length. but realize these pumps don’t build up the heat like a pw pump. Most are only pushing 200-300 psi so I think you can bypass pretty much indefinitely. I’ve got non switched Delavan 12V that I don’t have any extra hose and I’ve let it run 15min before.

I never let mine sit more than ten minutes on a 25 foot bypass hose

Thats great! I just can’t find good help so I work alone. Want to make sure I have enough time to access roofs while it idles. Kind of a weird thought but I wonder if anybody had ever dropped the 25’ of bypass hose in the buffer for better cooling. Plumbed with bulkheads and all.

Not worth the risk

I run the Midwest XL but prefer the Panhandle High Flow mixer.

AR45 use 5/8 hose. 12ft distance increase. 2.5GPM increase and much harder “punch” over 1/2”.

My rule of thumb is if I need to be off the trigger for more than 5 minutes we shut it off. It can safely run for 10-15.

I factually know letting it run for 40+ minutes on a 25’ 1/2” recirculating hose will overheat it. Had a crew do that on the P40. Replaced with the AR45. I like both. I probably prefer the AR30 over all though.

Oh they’ll definitely overheat. 10-15 minutes max off the trigger. My P40 smoked itself after 40 minutes when a crew forgot it was on cleaning a 4th story rooftop patio.

Is 25’ 1/2" what most people run? Wonder how much ambient temp affects, ie winter vs summer, could be 30-40 deg difference in water temp. Have people experimented with 5/8" of maybe longer lengths.
