Pressure Washer Dying When Engaging Ball Valve

Ok I don’t know what is going on. I just moved all of my equipment over to my new trailer. Everything is plumbed exactly the same way. I start the machine up with an open ball valve as usual and let it run for a minute, but as soon as I engage the ball valve so I can hook up a gun, the pressure washer dies. Any ideas of what’s causing this?

Edit: Just so everyone knows I am bypassing to my tank. Since it is happening when I engage the ball valve It makes me think that this is a bypass issue, but I don’t know how it could be?

Now the pull cord is extremely tight and i can’t even crank it. What the heck is going on. Is my pressure washer just trashed or something?!

unloader is still loaded or you have an obstruction not allowing pressure to release

What do I do to fix an issue like that? Like I said, everything is setup exactly the same as before.

Buy a new unloader

Unloader isn’t bypassing

Remove the unloader and see if it frees up the engine. If it does. -Allow the pump to prime before reinstating the unloader.

you can relieve pressure by cracking your jumper from head to unloader but carefully

Ugh. Lovely. I have been needing to get an unloaded block anyways. If I bought a new I unloader and unloader block, how difficult of a time am I going to have fixing all of this. Are there any tutorials out there? I know nothing about working on the unloader. This is my first pressure washer, and my first real issue with it.

It’s pretty straight forward. I’m sure someone has a diagram

As mentioned just get a new unloader. I’m not sure how much you use your PW…if not much just get a cheap VRT3 unloader. If you use it pretty much then get a green spring unloader if you like pressure trapped…or a K7 for flow.

I got my unloader block from PressureTek. They sell jumper hoses too in different lengths. You’ll be fine.

Pump -> jumper hose -> unloader mounted on block -> jumper hose -> hose reel

Here’s a few pics…not sure if it helps or not.

Put up a pic, just to be sure. There’s def pressure held up, open the lines. Usually the bottom of the pressure washer manifold is water intake, upper is pressure out.

Don’t start throwing parts at it until you figure out the problem. There isn’t much to these machines . It not difficult to figure out what’s not working

I’m home for the night and the trailer is at the shop, so I can’t take any close ups right now, but here are some pics. 1” hose barb on the inlet. 1/2” bypass line.

What would you guys due as the first step to start to diagnose the problem? I don’t even know how to check and see if the unloader is still pressurized.

Like I said before. Take it off . Then see if the motor turns over easily. You can even run it like this without damage. As long as your water supply is hooked up

So take off the unloader and then connect my whip line directly to where the unloader was? Or is it even necessary to connect the whip line?

Also, is there anything I should do before removing the unloader? As in to prepare for removing it? Sorry, I’m completely in the dark here when it comes to the unloader.

If it’s still hard to pull then you need to pull the head of the pump . But cross that bridge when you get there

No don’t connect anything. Just remove the unloader and try and start it

Got it! Thank you for your help! Really appreciate it. I am going to go ahead and order a new unloader and unloader block (I needed to get a block anyway) but I will probably be checking back to this thread many times to figure out the problem and address it first.
