Any idea as to what this is?
Total guess here…they had a metal dumpster and it rained, and there are rust streaks on their driveway now?

I wonder if they are on well water, perhaps someone rinsed the driveway with rusty water?
First picture looks like rust. It’s probably caused by lawn fertilizer. The house and concrete look new. Second picture is a ghost pattern left from plastic sheeting polyethylene/poly. Used to cover curing concrete. You can remove the rust. I’m not sure about the ghost pattern caused by the poly.

Looks like about 1/2 the driveways around here. Good old southern red clay. Literally see drives and stoops like this almost every day. Most people don’t want to pay to have it removed.

I would say someone spilled some type of acidic solution on a freshly poured driveway and attempted a poor cleanup.

Looks like when concrete was poured they covered with plastic due to expected rain. Marks after plastic removed.
Seriously dude that is no way to leave the customers house. I see that crap every day and just can’t wrap my head around why. 1 more minute at the job maybe 2 minutes. Either way though
Yes make sure to make a straight line that lines up with the driveway if you’re going to hit the curb as well…or atleast to the concrete joint…it’s sloppy looking.

I find it funny when guys don’t do the curb . Makes it much easier to sell them services when it was obvious how the last guy was
Seriously dude. I was going to do the curb. Homeowner was dertermined that he didn’t want them done. I would have passed the job all together if he would have specified before hand. However as I finished what you saw in the picture he stopped me. Now as the first gentleman suggested in the same situation I will take my line to the next line in the concrete if this situation arises again. However I still appreciate that you took the time to respond.

But I’m glad you’re taking something away from it . Never leave room for the next guy to do better and there likely will never be a next guy .
I pick on things like this from experience. I have two good buddies with pressure washing companies in my area . I know for a fact they rarely did the curbing in front of the house. When I ask them why the answer is always the same . “ because the customer didn’t want to pay extra for it.”
Truth is they shouldn’t have to.
Neither buddy still ownes a pressure washing company any more . After years of trying they couldn’t stay busy enough to pay there bills.
Hummm I wonder why🤔.
