Opening up stock injector

On the advice of more knowledgeable members I took my stock injector off the Cat pump and discovered it had a restrictive orifice screwed in.

I took it out, but will it mess with my unloader? I’m getting an add-on injector tomorrow, hopefully doing this correctly.

Do you have a photo of it plumbed? It looks like you could leave it off totally.

It has some sort of banjo style spring loaded valve with a rubber seat inside, I feel like it’s supposed to interact with the unloader somehow.

On the third page of the Cat Data Sheet (link below) for your pump is an exploded view of the parts of your unloader and injector. Maybe the Data Sheet will help.

Thanks, diagram shows it’s a check valve, #443. I’ll just leave it be for now, at least the orifice is out.:flushed:

I hate cat… you see these threads. You need to find a male hydraulic fitting that fits these threads to a female fitting that fit the npt threads on the right to adapt it. Or your new one isn’t going to fit. Those ding dongs want you to buy their injectors which are probably garbage.

So again you’re going to need to find a hydraulic fitting, male with the same threads as on the left to female npt with the threads that are on the right to adapt your new injector. Two different threads. Pretty sleazy of Cat to do that because the fine threads on the left aren’t typical of common hydraulic fittings.

Or hydraulic fitting, male with the same threads as on the left to male npt then a high pressure female npt to female npt to adapt the two together to adapt your new injector.

Your best bet is to take your old injector and new injector to your local hydro shop, plop them down on the counter and let the wizard behind it find you two fittings to make your dreams come true. But don’t be shocked if they have to special order a fine thread hydro fitting for you.

It’s my understanding I can add an injector to the existing one now that the 2.1mm orifice is removed. Maybe.

Never heard that. Maybe if you cap the old Barb hole or you’ll have a geyser, but you’re still going to need a female npt to female npt to attach the things together unless you’re just gonna string them all together with QCs.

By capping the old Barb threads I mean an npt plug.

I don’t understand why you want to replace it. Is it not working?

Apparently the stock one only pulls about 16-1, a new one is around 9-1 ratio. So I’m told.

I must be missing something here. Why not just unscrew your old injector and throw in trash. Screw your male plug into unloader. Your injector should be over by your hose reel anyway. If not, just QC it into your male plug.

As Squid pointed out it’s not standard threads.

Because the unloader is threaded female in fine, parallel threads. Almost all injectors and QCs are NPT. He needs to adapt it.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but if he caps his old DS ,Then adds on another one ,won’t he restrict flow even more ? And also, what new DS are you buying?

Yeah. The new one may not work with the old on there. I’m not totally sure, but that’s why I’m trying to understand why removing the orifice is effective for what he wants to accomplish.

I don’t think he understands the orfice is what makes the venturi effect to draw. He thought it was a check valve if I’m not mistaken
