Nextdoor dot com

For people who use nextdoor and is having success with it…would you mind sharing your neighbor count? I’m trying to figure out if its worth coninuing in this particular neighborhood if the numbers are low and trying to figure out what are decent neighbor numbers? Any other info would be greatly appreciated. :slightly_smiling_face:

Its free, who cares what neighbor count is??? Not much to figure out, make a business page and maybe a few people will find you while searching. They somewhat recently started having realtor ads on there so i called about getting an ad, just curious more than anything. Basically if not a realtor it was something like a minimum of $10k for the year to be a sponsored ad.

Ive had pretty good success with the App, but they dont allow you to advertise or post about your company. Some people get away with it, young kids cutting grass, babysitting, etc., but even those get removed.

Its a pretty decent app to have just for info from your community.

Thanks for your response…yes you are right…it’s free and that’s all that counts!

You can’t advertise, but you can get all the recommendations you can get. They have gotten pretty strict about advertising guidelines. They even deleted my 15yo daughters post about babysitting saying she couldn’t “advertise” her service. Said someone would have to recommend her. Its crazy if you ask me. I assume its like that across the board and not just my neighborhood after reading what the moderators sent my daughter. I have a business page but until someone recommends you, you won’t show up in specific neighborhoods. So I always ask if my customers use it and ask for a recommendation on there in their neighborhood. I’ve gotten a few jobs off of it, nothing major but its free so any advertising is good advertising especially when its free.

Yeah I’ve gotten some work off NextDoor but as mentioned you can’t advertise on there. I have a few people that have posted before/after pics of my work or a pic of a business card. I’ll bump those posts every month or two and NextDoor can’t take those down. If you’re in the right area you can do pretty well off NextDoor. My neighborhood just happens to be surrounded by a few rental type neighborhoods so it’s not as good as some.

I’m out in the country so I am limited on neighbors. I kinda like it that way

If you service other areas outside of your area and know someone who could create you an account there you can expand your reach.

I may be wrong, but I believe that all they have to do is recommend you and tag you in it. Then it opens that area up to you. I could be wrong though.

Yes you are correct. But there’s another way to advertise on there that if done this way you will need to get other accounts if you want areas thats not on your neighbor list…I’ll post it now below this cause I have to write it up it’s kind of long.

Nextdoor has worked fairly well for us. I say fairly, because while we have been ‘recommended’ many times, people don’t know us from Adam and treat my company as just another one to lump is in with crap businesses that can underbid my prices. We have over 300 ‘a’ reviews on Angie’s List but they don’t know that and I wind up back where I started years ago, trying to get my ‘foot in the door’.

Nextdoor in my area is primarily made up of ninny people posting about suspicious characters carrying bags or lost cats they ‘rescued’.

Yes, posting on their wall/news feed will get you slapped by the moderators…But there is another way that is just as powerful. It works best if there are already people asking for pressure services or something related to cleaning. It doesn’t matter how old the post is too. All you do is answer to the request. This way is 100% in their guidelines. And is also setting you up for future searches. Oh and the more you do this Nextdoor’s algorithm will push your business to the top. So when you answer to their request you are basically going to optimize it with your main keywords. So your post might be something like… Looking for pressure washing in xyz location, we do xyz in xyz amount of time, blah, blah , blah …then below that start a second paragraph where you list the areas you service with keywords sperated by commas, then list related keywords to your service. Be sure that the keyword you want to rank for is in your intro header text and in the area where you listed the local neighborhoods you serve. You want to then include your website, phone number and name. Next, you then add your an image. Make sure the image is of your business and have bright colors to catch attention. Each time you make a post like this make sure the image is different. Also try using a face image and that each time you do its different as well. Be sure to do all that I’m saying very slowly you don’t want to flood the news-feed because yes this will hit the news-feed as well. You want to do all of this when it’s like 2-3am in the morning (just incase) cause some people will flag for no reason and you control that. Also I recommend doing these post at least 1-2x per week. You will need atleast 5 of these per keyword to dominate any given keyword/page. When people search you will be all they see and like I said the more post you have on a page nextdoor algorithm will put you at the top listings even if your competitor has 100 recommendations.

You might want to alter your perception. My NextDoor is primarily made up of people with an interest in their communities, and who depend on the recommendations of others. I LOVE ND, and will soon start a campaign to clean the neighborhood signs free of those who post before pictures and contact information. My first was my own sign:

So for those of you who don’t know, @Donut is a local competitor. Why wouldn’t I want him to do the same thing in his neighborhoods? I’m having a hard time with the miserly attitudes of some of you guys. I want
Ken to succeed, just like I want all of you to be professional AND successful. Sharing what makes you and me better is just good for the industry. Period. Your generosity WILL pay. Just ask my mentors @squidskc, @Racer, and @Innocentbystander. Their generosity has made me more professional and much better than I would be without them. AND, I would wager that their generosity has made them more profitable as well.

Could you write an example post? I’m not completely following you on this formattting but I’m interested in stepping up my nextdoor marketing. I’ve been getting jobs with no effort so over the past two weeks I send before and after pictures to my customer and give them $10 off for they’re time to post the pics to ND and Facebook. The pictures have my info on them.

@Sparkle

I didn’t say ALL of our Nextdoor, just the local one in my neighborhood. Post after post about stray cats and suspicious characters that turn out to be regular can collectors or Amazon delivery drivers.

U dirty dog… i drive by there everyday to work and have noticed that brick has been cleaned.

I too have done well with nextdoor, and like you said its good thing. Dont try and beat the system, post a 182736 things in comments… people dont wanna see a bunch of nonsense filling up their feeds. Now do i make a post here and there? Yeah, but maybe 1 time when season is under way and then it gets flagged.

@MrSparkleVA… prolly same song and dance, but did have a lady call about Stucco townhouse the other day… gave them your name. Hopefully some of these ppl are calling you and not some other clown.

That last house is disgusting

Not only has my post NOT been flaggeds, but I’m about to invite people to take pictures of their ugly neighborhood marquis’s so that I can clean them. Not trying to sell anything, just developing some REALLY good will. Soon I will introduce a monthly giveaway for each person’s favorite charity to clean, likely one a month, with a live drawing or maybe even a poll for people to choose their favorite of three finalists, with a live announcement of the winner.

NOW, THAT ought to get my Facebook page rockin’!

I would personally make certain that anyone who finds you on NextDoor gives you a recommendation, and then I would engage in some act of charity like my sign cleaning with a note of gratitude for the opportunity to serve that specific community.

Good ideas for getting your foot in the door of some neighborhoods. I believe I saw Rob Anderson on YouTube doing community charity work by cleaning front signs

BINGO! He was a speaker at The Huge Convention and his topic was social media. GREAT seminar! I highly recommend going to The Huge Convention. It’s just down the road from @squidskc in Branson, MO next year.

OH, and props to Rob Anderson!

Yes. I do my quotes over the phone without looking at them. I guess you take the good with the bad. I pulled up and said to myself “TIME LAPSE”. I just wish the house was a bit nicer, then I would use it on a fb ad. I’m not sure that this is the type of house to be in video ads.
