Hello , All
My name is Victor, My friends call me Bleu. I haven’t bought my equipment yet, I still work part time and attend online college. But I have ordered business cards and have been doing extensive research the last couple of months to get myself ready to open shop and start pressure washing. Im currently looking at 3.5-4 gpm machines around $800 range. I have a list of chemicals I will be buying and what they are used for and how to use/mix them. I also have a list of equipment besides the machine I will have to purchase to start working. I am nervous and have joined other forums but for the most part the last time someone wrote in them was 2015 and most info is outdated, which brings me here . Im glad to have found this community and hope to learn everything there is to lear about pressure washing my mouth is closed and m ears are open. If anyone has any tips, suggestions, websites or stores to buy chemicals I’m all ears. Look forward to meeting new people and hope to someday add value to the community.
My idea is to go out with business cards close some estimates and schedule them for about a week or two later. (I’ve been practicing with a rented machine) get my equipment and chemicals and start washing away so I can at least get something back before spending. Again I’m new to this I’am super nervous and excited .
Best Regards
Bleu

Welcome aboard - most of the info here is fresh and relevant - just crack a drink and some snacks and dive in. Tons of good info and opinions on things like chemicals, how to start, how to mix, etc.
My wife is from Bayonne.
I just need to clarify, you are looking to start a business in NYC?
Also don’t buy anything yet, not even a machine until you read a few hours on here first. I’m year 3 now, still learning.

Yes NYC I live in Brooklyn, I’ve been reading the forum for a while now finally decided to join cause I got a lot of information out of it , I still have 2-3 weeks before I was planning to buy or start anything . I try to dedicate 2-4 hours a day on research cleaning methods mixing , chemicals, machines .
I’m looking to start simple , start off doing driveways, awnings, side walks, windows, kitchen/walk-in fridges ( I’m a chef by trade ), auto exterior , headstones, than work my way up to houses and so on .
Any pressure washer and supplies suggestions ? I’m looking at Simpson 4gpm at the moment .
Well, I think your main priority is to find out what restrictions, taxes, permitting, insurance, reclaim etc are necessary to start such a business in NYC, is what I was getting at. Do all that before buying a single thing.
If you don’t have all your ducks in a row as it were with the State, they can bring down the hammer really hard on small businesses.
Got you, yes I’m having someone help me with that already , I’m opening a sole proprietorship to start , but I was advised that I can start without even having that, especially if I’m doing simple residential driveway cleanings and car exteriors . I’ve did researching on permits and licenses for pressure washing and I haven’t seen any that are necessary, I’ve checked everywhere online. As far insurance that’s something I haven’t check yet I’ve done general research and from what I heard it can be expensive but that mostly based off of chemicals being used, equipment such as ladders and type of pressure washer , and if you service things like roofs and houses and so on .
If you can give advice as far as insurance and if there’s any licenses or permits for NY would greatly appreciate it. Also I have equipment I’m buying for reclaim just in case it’s pretty cheap I can build one or buy a simple one and attach shop vac just need to know where water will flow I also plan on using neutralizer
Ok wow, just wait on the equipment. You only need reclaim if it’s required by The State such as desert-dry Kalifornia.
That’s all I have right now.
