New to this

Hey everyone! My husband wants to start his own pressure washing business. It looks like there are a lot of great people on here with good experience. I was wondering if we could get some advice on the best equipment for someone starting out with not a lot of money up front. Also would like to know what jobs are the best to take starting out? We were thinking of just doing driveways for a bit until he gets more comfortable. Would love to hear some feedback. He does have a gas pressure washer already which I have pictured.

Is it still in the box? If so take it back. It’s junk.

Sorry for that brief response. Not much time to type answers to your other questions.

Welcome to the forum.

Thanks for the response. Unfortunately no. He’s used it on a friends patio. What would be a better option?

Spend some time reading through the forums and don’t be afraid of the search bar. Not only will you find the answers to all the questions you asked but you will also find answers to questions you didn’t know you had yet.

Almost anything unfortunately. Search dewalt or Simpson pressure washer here on the forum if you want to be heartbroken. Numerous cases of pumps going bad regularly.

You’ll have to replace the pump on that and it’s too small to work quickly. Use the search function of the forum. It’s a gold mine.

I think Lowes will still take it back within a certain timeframe if you dont like it.

Hey chris. There is already a thread going on this

Feel free to comment and ask questions on it. Having 2 threads going on the same thing makes it difficult to get a good response from people here. The veterans here get tired of repeating themself lol.

Just one thing… Why are you here and not him?

That’s pretty much the same one I bought before I knew what to get. Thankfully TSC took it back.

Bare minimum he needs a 3500psi/4 gallon per minute (GPM) machine. The latter is way more important than the PSI.

Hi @ChrisP, that machine has it’s limits and as you can see from the comments is not a long term plan. However, on the bright side it will do the job for a while if you are planning on starting on flatwork residential driveways it will get you, or him started. I started with a little Ryobi Pressure Washer (shameful face) for the first couple weeks and was able to quickly save up for a belt drive machine after cleaning my neighbor’s homes and driveways. Then it was another, and then now I’m using a 5.5 gpm hot water unit on a 12’ trailer all from starting off small and using no debt. I only do this part-time, however if you follow the advice from the full timers on here they will lead your husband into the right territory. Doing your/his research in viewing other forums on here is the best way to avoid making mistakes. The search bar will be your best educator. Good luck!

He only speaks Spanish.

What city are you guys in?

That might make getting PW jobs difficult.

Actually, he might find a niche market depending on location. And he has a built in english speaking secretary. He will do well.

Ya i guess thats true. I was imagining me not being able to speak English. It would be alot harder to find jobs and network.

Not if you were in Spain, Mexico etc

Or south Florida lol

Cali, texas, arizona all have spanish majority neighorhoods. Mexican food restaurants etc. They sometimes will only hire people they can feel comfortable communicating with. Same with french in Canada I hear.

We are in Florida in the Tampa Bay Area. I’ll be doing the administrative stuff. Also I should have phrased that differently. He understands English well enough but cannot read or write it very well.
