New Member Introductions

Hello to anyone who comes across this

I am a 19yr old college student, looking to start up a service business as it seems that there is a big demand for them right now (2023)

I have begun to start doing research on what services would be the best to start up with and I believe that a pressure washing/window cleaning business might be the one to break into right now (Possibly also salting/plowing if it comes to it, I live in Baltimore County, so snow happens about twice a year but drive ways always need to be salted). I am looking for any guidance or tips on what are the most reliable pressure washers and nozzles are, along with any resources that can help explain what to do with different kinds of dirt.

Any help would be appreciated

Hello, Im from the east coast of v.a. I’m into lawncare but want to get into softwashing and power washing as well. I don’t really know what else to say tbh. I pretty much just work.

Welcome! Is that VA as in Virginia?

Yes. Va as in Virginia!

Welcome! So I assume you’re out in the Hampton/Newport area then?

Thank you! Im more in the willamsburg/Newport news area. Thats pretty much the area I serve.

Nice! I worked down there for a few months a few years ago.

Hey folks! My name is Bill and im located in the SC lowcountry. Just wanted to introduce myself and say thanks for all the information you guys provide. I havent been around long but I can already tell there is a cool community on this forum. Im a full time firefighter and learning as much as I can. Im starting to build out a trailer and will hopefully start a small operation in the not too distant future. I hope to soon ask an ingnorant question and be put in my place by the resident grump.

Hey everyone,

My name is Dave and I’m from Sydney Australia, I have joined this forum to further my knowledge in preparation on starting my own small business after working for the day and weekends.

My plan is to start off slow with only offering drive way and concrete cleaning and possibly anything else my machine can handle well, then slowing progress as i keep practicing on mine and my neighbours houses and hopefully progress into roof restoration as this interests me and where ever else this journey may take me.

My machine is for the moment is a typhoon T2500B and i have a 14 inch whirlaway surface cleaner. Looking to upgrade this asap.

Im enjoying reading and learning from you lot already.

Nice to meet you Dave. One of my favorite customers and neighbor is from Sydney. I have become accustomed to the word Oi’ !

That is how I started. With a 4 GPM machine and an f150 pickup truck - unloading and reloading it to get the gravity feed as it didn’t contain a water pump as some of the larger systems do. It was a great learning experience not only from the pressure washing aspect, but from the customer interaction side of things.

I wish you well and hope that things take off for you and that you’re wildly successful! Know that this is a great forum of people who help in any way they can. You found the right place

Oi Jay lol, thanks heaps for the reply mate and the well wishes I’m glad to see others start out with smaller machines too and progress from there. I’m learning a fair bit on here already, admittedly I’ve googled a lot of the abbreviations people use and how some of the products work. I’m definitely excited for the journey ahead.

Please be careful with that ‘smaller’ machine, they often put out excessive pressure in exchange for low gallons (liters/litres?) per minute, and with stock nozzles on surface cleaners will etch the SNOT out of concrete.

Cheers for the advice, how would you advise to avoid that with replacing the machine immediately. I do plan to do more testing for free on a few places.

Spend a few hours using the search function, lots of information on the subject.

I am not new to forums and I spend a lot of time reading stuff here when I should be sleeping, I am well aware of the search function thanks anyway.

Not to derail the intro thread… but the best way to adjust the pressure is always going to be different tips. I think this is the one that had info, but no time to check:

Hello Everyone,

I hope the weekend has been treating you all well. My name is Edwin and I currently reside in New Jersey. I always wanted to become self-employed but have always been hesitant to move the needle. I have zero experience in the PW business and have been researching a bit about the industry lately. Using YouTube, Reddit, and now this forum, I feel like I am in the right direction, so far as I try to soak in as much info.

Moreover, I did create my LLC with the state of NJ a few weeks ago (Told myself I need to start taking the steps now, or it will never happen.) I am now researching to obtain the NJ home improvement contractor license and see if there are any other legal tapes I need to go through to run a legitimate pressure washing business. I don’t have any vehicle/equipment/insurance yet, but I am looking to start purchasing equipment little by little starting in the next month and then practice on a few family member driveways/sidewalks. In the meantime, I will continue to build my knowledge and try to finish up my business plan.

Look forward to connecting and learning from you all.
