Whoever welded that had no shame. Nothing.

Thanks, my curiosity was killing me. I haven’t seen that before.

It’s great that you saw my original post “explaining” partly why the welds look like that but still decide to say something again. “Resident Grump” seems to fit your style.

No shame. And ran out of gas like 3min in. Lol. :man_shrugging:

100% kicked it. Then we lifted that side of the trailer off the ground… And those horrible welds held. Then my husky friend climbed up there and jumped on it a few times… Still held. We looked around at each other and I said “That’ll hold.” :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

don’t get all riled up, welding is like a big thing to some of the members on here. I don’t know anything about welding, when I need it done I take it to someone.

Thick 2" webbing can be rated around 7k. Just keep in mind that you are using chemicals, the chemicals and the sunlight will deteriorate that strap over time. I personally use chains. There is a big bend in the road by my house, I have seen lots of things on the side of the road that had been “secured” with those junk 1" straps. Seriously, once a month I get about 150 trucks hauling side by sides by my house for the poker runs, I always find stuff. I wish I didn’t, it’s mostly junk that I have to throw away. I wish people started strapping their wallets down, that way I could make a buck.

You ain’t wrong lol. I won’t be using 1" webbing anymore. I’ve got a set of 2" just didn’t bring em with me yesterday. Really gotta though bolt that e-track too… What’s your take on those metal tank straps?

You’ve been a huge help so far man. Thank you.

I’ve been active on forums for awhile. There are always those that can do everything better than anyone else. Better than professionals in some instances. So I do take it with a grain of salt.

It’s because they didn’t say “That ain’t going anywhere!” after they tied it down lol

I not a pro load management or risk assessment person. I’m guessing that the tank straps that your are referring to are the silver colored bolt down clamp style tank straps? There are a lot of people on here that use them. I never really looked into them. I used chains, hooks, eyebolts, and grade 8 nuts and bolts and 1/4 plating. Everything has a load rating 3x higher than what it will hold.

I’ve seen people attach a super heavy duty hook to their wooden floor with #8 wood screws. I saw a stump grinder in pieces near my house, 1" straps lol.

You can’t get upset if you ask for opinions and get them

I’m not upset lol… I get it you’re “that guy.” No biggie man… I’ll just remember for when I come across other posts by you.

Okay now that’s just stupid not even just unsafe. You’re gonna make me go replace the tie downs right now

Rule of thumb, when you run out of gas you stop welding, your welding wire doesn’t know it’s turned into gasless fluxcore wire. I only say this because you might not know the difference and build a trailer one day and let it loose among society. Now i feel good and can sleep at night knowing i saw incompetency and didn’t stay silent.

Great, now you “that guy” also. Before you know we’ll just be talking to each other. @DisplacedTexan will probably try to worm his way into our conversation and will have to draw straws on who will tell him that club rules are one American and one under the equator guy.

It’s okay. I’ll start my own club. It’ll be way cooler than…whatever y’all are up to lol

Thanks for that info. Would that be why it would cut in and out? Also was hard as hell to get it to flow.

Lol we can all be “that guy” when the time calls for it. Yall not wrong … I shouldn’t have welded it. I had a job that needed completed and said f it - use what’s available. If the welds didn’t hold I would consider completely redoing it all. At this point my plan is get gas, grind those doo doo welds, then try and put down some respectable welds.

Lol so I read a few posts and yeah…

3333 pound ratchet straps are like $15 at Harbor Freight. They get sunbaked and get moldy from being on a wash trailer quickly so replace them every year at least.

Personally, I don’t use the “That’ll Hold” technique. I’m more of a “That’s Not Going Anywhere” fan. Either works I guess.

I can’t weld very well so I’m not qualified to use this technique but it is king. A “That’ll do Donkey” will make sure any weld holds.

Pfft. You Gen Z’s just don’t even know.

I like donkey version. Probably because I am an @SS

Got those metal straps holding down 3 - 200gal water tanks on my water trailer. They were made for the specific tank, so I assume the engineering on them was sound. I modded 1 set for a lower sitting tank and through bolted all of them though. Nearly a ton of water in each is no joke.

I’ve been called plenty of words I can’t even pronounce, at least “that guy” is readable.

Yes that would be why, steel wire needs to be shielded with a argon/co2 mixture of gas for penetration. Without gas you aren’t welding, just arking it together.
