I’m very new to pressure washing. I live in Durham, NC Just purchased a 3200 2.8 GPM machine, extension wand and surface cleaner to keep our home clean. I’ve had some success and some failures. I’m here to see if anyone can help me with the washing issues that I don’t understand.

Welcome to the forum. The best thing you can do for yourself is spend about month or reading and researching on here. You’ll soon find out there’s a much easier and more profitable way to do things. You don’t need an extension wand (unless you’re just talking about a 3-4’ one for decks, curbs, etc). If it’s one of those long 20’ extension wands take it back before you use it. You might want to take the machine back to and get one with more gpm. It’ll work but will take forever to clean anything. Time is money though. You could at least double or triple your profits if you moved up to at least a 4 gpm. Many go for at least a 5.5 gpm at first but then end up getting an 8 gpm.
There’s a search bar up to the right by your avatar. Just start typing words in and reading through old threads. You’ll end up learning stuff you had no idea you needed to know. You can make an extremely good living pressure washing if you go about it the right way. I don’t think I’ve seen one person fail at this business who has stuck around and implemented the advice. Here are a few terms to get you started.

What’s up guys! New Member here. My name is Frankie, new Owner/Operator of FireHouse Power Washing in Central Alabama. I’m a full time Firefighter looking to make a good supplemental income on my off time. Pressure washing is something I thoroughly enjoy doing and learning about. I’m trying to get all the info I can to build the tools I need to do well in this industry.

Welcome! Word of advice READ, there’s a lot here. Use the search hourglass and what you can’t find, use youtube, lots of great videos. Lot’s of knowledgeable folks on here and a few grumps too!

Hello to all. Getting into the power washing business. I have been on this site spending alot of time reading and trying to retain all the useful information from you guys. I will be building a trailer mounted unit. I live in east Tennessee and looking forward to growing a successful business. Hello Everyone. I am P0tentPOtables/Atticus. I am leaving the IT field after 20+ years to open up my own Pressure Washing + more businesses. I have mild OCD and love the satisfaction of destroying the dirt/grime in this world. I am a disabled vet with a learning disability so sorry in advance if I get on anyone’s nerves. Hello! Sorry for the long delay from response. My hot water heater went out so that’s what I’ve been doing. I am a Senior Technician for the Federal Government. I work from home 24/7 and make a lot of money. It’s such an easy job for me but I’m tired of dealing with my suggestions going deaf to upper management that doesn’t understand computers. I want to make a difference and make positive changes. Not just show up and do work.

Hello all, thanks for having me. I’m a Registered Nurse located in Northern California looking to start a PW business on my days off from the hospital (I work 3 x 12h shifts a week). I have a lot of reading ahead of me, I’ll talk with you guys when I feel that I have enough knowledge to ask informed questions! Nice to meet you brother. I’m located in Chico, around 1.5 hours north of Sacramento. One of these days I’ll have to shoot you a pm, I have a few CA specific questions that I haven’t come across yet. I’ll try to get a day or two of read time before I bug you with questions I have on water reclamation and contractor’s licensing (been reading mixed things on if this is needed).

You guys in CA should make a fortune next few months washing soot and stuff off of houses from all the fires. Be safe out there.

With California being out of electricity it’s a good thing their machines are gas powered.
Of course, the way California runs things, they’ll soon be out of water, too.

Did last year, full home details including fences, sidewalks, roofs, patios, driveways you name it. Had more work thru the winter than I did in the summer! That’s the only benefit of the fires.
You don’t need a contractors license. You only need a contractor license if you’re doing what’s called water blasting which is a mix of air and water and above 10,000 psi. Dustless blaster‘s also need this license. You can just get a regular city business license and good liability insurance. Check out Joseph D Walters Insurance Agency They specialize in insuring for this business. Regular insurance companies don’t even know how to cover it so they charge a fortune and there’s too many things they don’t cover.
