I recall you were posted in Hawaii, that’s what’s called relatively new land created by volcanic action.
Australia is land created by ancient volcanic and tectonic events.

Sheesh, you guys don’t do much investing - The 2 largest mining companies in the world are located in Australia - BHP and Rio Tinto - Australia accounts for 40% of the total market value of minerals in the world.
