So just bought the most favored hose the gray non-marking contintental 4000 psi 200’ long hose and only used it 10 times. Yesterday when using it with heat on high (200 deg) as I was working with the m5ds tip (so less than 800 psi in use at the time) I heard a pop. Looked down and the gray rubber right where it meets the metal split about 1” long. The inside braid seems fine, no leaks. Any idea why this could happen? Will the hose be fine still? I wrapped some clear gorilla tape around it to keep it from spreading but I thought this was a really good hose.
It’s a bad connection and will probably blow. Take it hydraulic shop have them put the best swivel end they have on it. I like to put a heat shrink over the that to keep it from rusting
Sounds like abuse. What kind of bend restrictor is on it? The hose will be fine, the end will just need to cut and have a new fitting swaged in place. Have them use a R1 bite to wire rigid 3/8 mpt fitting
Thanks man. Yeah you nailed it. The bend restrictor actually came loose and made its way 15’ down the line. I tried calling all the local hydraulic places and they won’t touch it due to liability concerns. Is there a tool I can buy to do it myself or someway to fix it without shipping it somewhere? Also what’s the best ends to buy i would like to upgrade to a stainless end on it. R1 bite is that the style I ask for?
Go to Napa. They do hose repair there. I can’t believe a hydraulic store won’t touch it. Must be a California thing…lol
@dperez . Sean sometimes less is a “whole” lot more lol.
The wife says I’m too busy talking to do any listening and when I’m not talking I’m too busy thinking about what I’m going to say to do any real listening.
Your just a normal male then.
Lol for real. I’ll hit up Napa tomorrow and tell them what @dperez told me to say. Would of been bummed if I had to throw away an otherwise perfectly good new 200’ hose. I had this other place try to put new ends on 2 other cheaper hose‘s a few years ago and they only lasted like a week each. Didn’t want to use them to crimp ends on again but maybe it was the hose itself… still trying Napa first
Kleen-Rite link and video were good, that 70’s porn music though…
I use a 8ft 2 wire whip line at the end of my hose. It’s a little heavier but it saves your 100ft+ hoses since most hoses blow right near the gun.
Slit the rubber bend restrictor thingy at the coupling so it will slide up and down the hose. That’s what we hold when we roll up hose
That’s actually something discussed in the book “never split the difference” concerning effective negotiations.
… go on…
The way he applied the grease really bothered me. I also couldn’t do that every day without a ratchet wrench.
So no one except that one place will do it. The main vendors here have Parker and gates but won’t install. Not one person understood what I meant by a bite to wire fitting. I called Goodyear and the guy is going to get back to me on the one that is meant for the hose. Even then the specs for each brand is different so I will try to find what they are for the Neptune hose. I’ll report back what he tells me it is.
I cringed watching that dude use adjustable wrenches! I always use box end wrenches on hoses. But I did install lasers and gps on tractors for a few years. So it got to be pretty common to look at a hose and know the size wrench.
I dont understand I think you are trying to hard. Do you have a heavy equipment repair shop close to you just take it to them ask them to put a swivel end on your hose. My guess is you are confusing the guy on the phone and he is thinking this is way to complicated for a 8 dollar fix. Kinda like guys who walk away from red houses
If you have a 3/8 Neptune hose it has an I.d. of 9.5mm and O.D. of .69 most common such as Eaton and others 3/8 hose has the same ID and the OD is .63 that’s in mm. So you shouldn’t have a hard time just walk in and tell them you need a 3/8” npt swivel crimped on.
I don’t walk away. I just never go lol. @Seandz walk into NAPA, give them $16 and tell them to fix your hose. I go in the back door of the AutoZone in Apex, NC fix my hose, carry the bag the fitting came in to the register and give them the money.
