Other acids like what
I can just picture @Grizz running to the grocery store and buying them out of lemons and slicing them up and placing them all around a stain like some kind of lemon cult sacrifice.
That’s crazy cheap for two pounds of acid, I think. I wonder what the mix ratio for citric would be. I bet @Hotshot could fill us in. He’s the resident acid freak. Seems like he’s used all kinds–hydrofluoric, phosphoric, psychedelic, etc.
I remember @racer saying he uses it for decks instead of oxalic sometimes. I ordered some and used it at the same ratio as oxalic and it didn’t really compare. Maybe I didn’t use enough? Don’t let my inexperience change your mind. I’m sure Rick can enlighten us on it.
I’ve used this a few times on vinyl and aluminum trim and it works great. I’ve had oxalic work well and not at all but this stuff hasn’t let me down yet. It’s phosphoric acid based.
Such a weird smattering of US states where its available. And of course none near me lol
Yea pretty random areas… it’s fairly inexpensive I wonder if it’s available online anywhere. I’m sure there’s other rust removers with the same active ingredient that will probably work the same or similar
Yeah, I’m sure it can be found somewhere on the interwebs. I try to do very little rust removal because I’ve fully bought in to the KISS method but I always try to at least offer it to folks. I bid it high every time though just in case I have to use F9 or some other exotic chemical.
What I have access to in a lab is very different than what is commercially available. You will have to try out what you can get your hands on. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, you would be amazed at what a toilet bowl cleaner can accomplish. Plus, the cling is super helpful for contact time, and they aren’t so strong as to do super horrible damage in a test spot. Test spots are necessary though with any new acid.
I’ve seen you praise toilet bowl cleaner a few times now. Do you have a preferred brand?
Ok I’m down to try I’m going to find some rusted porch rails and do some test
It’s definitely worth it
I used 3 or 4 cases and it worked beautifully. It was only a couple hundred or so and was a big up charge.
Nope, I just know most are acid based. I’ve seen some that contain muriatic, one even contained HF (hidden as ammonium bifluoride). They are just really handy. I encourage you guys to go read labels on toilet bowl cleaners and take a look.
This was one application 50/50 mix and a garden hose.
Well son of a biscuit eating bulldog. It really does work. Color me impressed!
Im guessing it had HF ?
Doesn’t say. More test to come but I do know that it cost 2 dollars a bottle. What a deal
I feel really stupid I used industrial toilet bowl cleaner in the shop to remove rust from old tools just never thought about it in that fashion.
Yay! Try others too
