Master Blaster Truck Build

Shipped her June 18th and she arrived 29 days later. Drove her down from the Dallas VPC the day after I flew in. Love the roads in Texas.

Yes sir. Gonna give it a go. If it works awesome, if not Iā€™ll build a 12V and use the compressor in my garage. That or it will make for one heck of a dumpster fire lol.

I donā€™t have any experience with AODD but from what Iā€™ve seen that compressor looks a bit small. Are you running a 3/8ā€ pump?

1/2", I know several guys using that compressor with a 1/2" Flojet 7GPM and 10GPM. I have the 10GPM. If I like it I intend to upgrade down the line. For now Iā€™m going to give it a try.

Looking good. Just curious. Did the DOD pay to ship the Vette back? I know the pay moving expenses just didnā€™t know if they would cover shipping a car overseas.

Your parents donā€™t leave in Houston? I was thinking you grew up there and they were in the area.

Itā€™s probably a little easier to get out in the middle of nowhere in Texas and open her up than in Hawaii. Too many cliffs thereā€¦lol

Yes the Navy paid for shipping the car. They pay for one vehicle.

My parents live North of Austin by a hour 30 minutes which is where I grew up. Houston was purely a business decision. But Iā€™m happy to be back in Texas and all the major cities are 3 hours away.

Sadly I havenā€™t really opened her up yet. Been too tired and or busy. Gotta be fresh to unleash the beast.

Iā€™ve said for years that I can drive from anywhere in North Texas blindfolded and tell you the exact moment we cross into Oklahoma. The roads are a dead giveaway. Well, that and the horrible drivingā€¦

With two of us, we used to always have one soaping with the 5.5 and one rinsing with the 8. This year, we started just splitting the jobs in half (unless one could do one service while the other does another), and it is way more efficient. No more waiting for one guy to finish his task, no more crossed hoses, etc.

Your build makes me want to haul the washer around for another year and save for a utility truck instead of an enclosed trailer

I paid $14K for it. 2015 GMC Sierra 2500HD 4 door, 191K miles. The dealer gets them all the time if you want his info I can share it.

Sure that would be great

Adding more detail to the thread for future reference:

Mounting the equipment:

Ladder Rack - Kargo Master Pro II: Ensure your ladder rack can clear your equipment. I bought mine used and they had it lowered so I had to raise it up which the max clearance is 25 inches and I needed 22.5 inches. Once I had it raised I then mounted it to the truck. The rack breaks down into 3 pieces. I used the rear piece to mount it to the truck. That required two people and we used the reel boxes and another smaller box to prop the front portion of the rack up while marking the rear holes for drilling. I used a sharpie for this. Once the holes were ready we assembled the whole ladder rack and then that took three people to lift it up and hold it in place to screw in the back six screws (three on each side). The front portion sits on the lip of the bed of the truck and required two holes to be drilled which was done through the ladder rack holes which completed the install.

Reels: The reels are a one man lift as they weigh 59.4lbs. For those I set them all on the edge of the bed of the truck, which the service bed edge is 14 inches wide and I needed 12 inches for the reels. Once I had them all in place I used whiteout to mark the holes for drilling. You can use a template but using whiteout allowed me to have them all in place and mark them all at once to ensure I didnā€™t make a mistake in placement. I then used a 3/8 drill bit to drill out the holes. I secured the reel with a 3/8 bolt 1ā€ long, a washer, then another washer and lock washer inside the bed cabinet, and a nut.

GX690: We drilled out the skid holes to 3/8 prior to putting it on the truck. Then we put it on the truck, marked the holes with white out again, and then drilled them out. The vibration reducers I used had their own threads with a bolt needed from the skid down and another bolt from inside the truck cabinet up into the vibration reducer. Once the holes were drilled we set the vibration reducers in place and screwed them in from the bottom with a washer and 3/8 bolt inch and 3/4 inches long. Then from the top of the skid into the vibration reducer another 3/8 inch bolt with a washer 3/4 inch long.

GX390: The steel powder coated skid came with vibration reducers but they were inside the skid. To account for that we removed the vibration reducers, drilled out the skid with a 5/16ā€ bit, then reinstalled the vibration reducers, and then installed the motor onto the skid. Then I used a 4 inch 5/16ā€ bolt with a washer from the top down through the reducers which are not tapped and it slid through. I then secured it inside the cabinet of the truck with a washer, lock washer, and a locking nut.

AODD System: The Northern Tool Air Compressor was secured by adding angle iron with holes pre drilled from Home Depot. I bought a 36ā€ long piece then cut pieces 8 inches long and drilled holes into the rails of the compressor and attached it with 1.5 inch long 5/16 bolts, a washer, then on the other side a washer, lock washer, and stop nut. From below I then used three 5/16 flat washers to prop up the angle iron to allow me to torque it down and engage the lock washers to. I had to use the extra washers to not torque down the rubber mounts the compressor was sitting on. I secured it inside the bed cabinet with a washer, lock washer, and a stop nut.

@DJPWS if this is something you plan on doing long term as a career save your money for a truck. Trailers get old real fast. The ones that disagree havenā€™t had enough time with both.

This guy would disagree.

The first job I got was at the top of a mountain, and the turnoff was a backwards switchback. All dirt, winding road, and 7ā€™ at its widest. No way to do it but to back the trailer up the 1/2 mile winding driveway with my little 1500 Silverado, in 4 low the whole time. Took me 15 minutes to get to the top. Hadnā€™t made a dime yet and I was already over it

Gotta know when to say no I guess. I have been doing a lake house for several years that I know I will not be able to do with my larger trailer anymore, because the driveway is so steep and the bottom is gravel. I wonā€™t miss getting a running start to get up that hill when Iā€™m done though.

Youā€™re probably right about that one! Itā€™s hard when youā€™re a new company and the phone isnā€™t ringing off the hook yet. The wash went great and got me a roof from one of her friends, but that was one of the more harrowing adventures Iā€™ve had with that trailer

Yeah, Iā€™m in the same boat with this lake house. It belongs to doctor and I do all the work at her main house. Iā€™m not looking forward to telling her to get someone else for the lake house but still have me do the main house. I might lose it all but Iā€™m telling you I feel like Iā€™m competing in the X Games every time I leave that job.

191k miles seems high for miles, good car fax ? Are most of yalls work trucks high mile trucks yā€™all got used ?

Yes and clean car fax. Any truck in Texas has high miles due to distances driven. This truck was an enterprise fleet truck.

I found a 2019 F250 with 14K miles for $32K but meh do the math for cost of operating.
