Got a 225 gal tank. However the bulkhead is on the side. It’s a horizontal leg, so I dont wanna run it long way on the trailer for obvious reasons. So its commonly said that you want the straightest line possible to the pump… with that being said, does that only apply to 8 gpm machines or will my 4gpm be fine ? I’m thinking of running a flex tube out of it rather than a sharp 90 degree elbow… will I get by with that or should I think about finding a flat surface on one of the legs to put a new bulk head ? Thoughts ? I’m just worried I won’t find a flat surface on the front to put a new bulkhead.
Put another bung hole in our just use vacuum line and run it wherever you want to
You mean like a pump to help it along ? So the bulkhead on the side is no bueno eh ?
Bob has 12v roof pumps, you mean something like that or do you mean something simple at like tractor supply that’ll just move 8gpm or something?
No. He’s just recommending hose that won’t collapse when you machine makes some suction.
You can install a bulkhead/bunghole on the tank anywhere you need to. The side of one of the legs might be a good spot. Like this:
Oh ok Alex. Thanks for the clarification bud. I was gonna use flex pvc so it’s a hard(ish) line but so that it will curve nice and easy… I didnt wanna use a straight up 90 degree hard pvc elbow. No bueno.
Kinda like the stuff they use for pools… that bendy white hose with the inner rings that keep it from sucking shut. Poly braid will probably do the same tho, and then I guess an upside would be that its see through too ! Maybe I’ll use that.
poly braid will fail in summertime when it softens, use suction hose.
Copy that Mark.
The pool style is what I have and it works great. The white spa hose you speak of is what I have on the inlet of my pump. It has a steel wire running around it and is very sturdy. Big tip I learned on here is using a heat gun to get it real hot before slipping it over a barb. It slides on easier and if you clamp it right away I feel like it melts into the barb for a great seal.
You’re absolutely right chris ! I’m around that stuff all day at work and that’s what we do when hooking up lines to pool pumps.
Heat em up with a torch and get em nice and warm.
Are you running a belt drive machine? I would think you’d be fine with it coming out of the side. Someone correct me if I am wrong, but you don’t have to have a straight line to your pump. My hose comes out of the side of my tank at the bulkhead, bends toward the front of the trailer then bends again at the front of the trailer to my pump. So I have two bends in my hose. Works fine for me. I had heard don’t use any 90’s but after seeing IBS’s video recently and asking him about it (that is how his is set up) I ended up running a 90 out of my tank and no problems so far. The other bend is a more gradual bend with just the hose.
Direct drive. 4gpm
Is there a reason then why your not just hooking up directly to the house then? Don’t mean that to sound sarcastic, just asking. I would definitely eliminate any hard 90’s then, but as long as your water column is well above your pump, I wouldn’t think a few slight bends in your hose will be a major issue. With a direct drive pump, you will be working solely off gravity therefore you have to make sure you keep enough water in your tank to force the water through the line to your pump. But with a 225 gallon thank, I would think you’d be fine.
Don’t bother with the tank if it’s direct drive
Negative… we washed three houses and 12 decks today with our direct drives hooked up to our buffer tanks. I must be lucky (:
As long as your tank n washer are mounted to trailer floor and your running less then 3 feet of straight spa hose you will be fine
If washers on a cart take it off and bolt straight to the floor
Where I live and get my leads from, a lot of my customers run off well water. Last Sunday I drained a customers well dry. Didnt think I would with a 4gpm, but I did. I had to stop and reschedule to finish. I dont ever wanna have to do that again. We all like showers and flushing our toilets and I felt bad. Lol.
Plus a lot of people in this area ain’t stupid. Theyll tell you their well ain’t too deep, and they will ask you if you’re bringing water. Lol
