How to Protect plants and grass from SH Soft Wash chemicals

I have found that even though I rinse after use the ball gets stuck sometimes.
I take the barb off and free it up then reassemble and it works again until the spring and/or o-ring is knackered.
Not a big drama as long as you have spares on hand.

Why are you messing with that. Bot 1 - 5 gal container of plant wash 5 years ago and still have 1/2 of it. And I do a boatload of roofs. Customers don’t pay me to spray plants., so I generally don’t.

Hey @Racer happy new year Rick!

Been thinking about trying some out, recently had an issue with a Japanese maple…it did not like me at all :frowning:

Ive been to there website and they recommend a garden hose applicator, I’d rather run it through the sw pump since the hose is already out.

I presume you only use it on higher end jobs.

How do you apply it?

Don’t you have an issue with leafs turning brown, or do you just pre and post wetting with water? @Racer

I’ve been pre and post wetting, but I still have some leafs curl. Even with my house wash. I haven’t had a complaint, but its still not the experience I want to give. Maybe I wet too much?

I Ds agent halt, super quick rinse on all affected plants on every roof job, a gallon will last a couple months or so. I see no reason to not use it and I like the peace of mind

I hate over paying for things. This will probably last me 10 plus seasons as long as I store it correctly and it’s cheap. I don’t plan to use this in every job. Just the ones where there is a higher risk to plants or where there are ponds with expensive fish really close to the home which in my customer base I have a few. I could de chlorinate an entire pool with less than a cup of this stuff. It’s good to have for an emergency situation if you need to stop chlorine in it’s tracks safe on the skin too. Not the eyes though. Some people said it also removes the chlorine smell. Wash my hands with just one bead of this stuff in the middle and throw a bead of two in my laundry. Lots of little uses

If it’s just a plant or 2, just use a pump up. since I usually pre-rinse and rinse with my pressure washer most times, if needed on bigger area will xjet it. You want it real light purple, so can dilute a good bit. I wouldn’t necessarily use my sw pump, because you’ll waste a fair amount in your line, but also you’ll need to rinse the heck out of pump and line afterwards to make sure you get rid of any of it in your line so you don’t kill your SH next outing.

Y, if Japanese maple close by I try to have my rinse guy all over it. But as I said, I rarely have to use, but most houses around here have gutters and if I’m shooting up the side of the roof, just have my rinse guy on that side.

On prewetting I just give a quick rinse. Can do 2 sides in a min or 2. If a house wash mix about the same, because you’re already rinsing house and getting some rinsing from that. If roof mix I just hit briefly, but with pretty good pressure, because you’ve got more surfactant causing it to stick to leaves, so you’ve got to knock it off.

The only time I have any problem with a housewash is if they have like pansies or some big bloom flower, it doesn’t take much to cause blooms to curl up and burn. If I spray them, I’m immediately rinsing, like in 30 sec and then move on around house.

@Racer Thanks Rick, I think I’ve been rinsing too much then! I’ll try your way and see what happens.

I put ā€œladder ballsā€ on those standoffs, they help a lot.

We use tennis balls

Just watched your video. We think alike

Hello all, I could use similar advice on plant protection with SH.

I just received request for these two homes. I’m planning on multiple coats of 50/50 SH (or hotter) with plants just below.

@TexasPressureWashing do you think gypsum or plant wash would be good for this? Put it down before, after, and between costs?

@DJPWS how about your sodium thiosulfate?

Or @Bigbendwashpros how about agent clean neutralizer?

On the front of that bad one, I’d hit with the plant wash and cover those, but where you really need to be concerned is where it runs down the wall into the ground. I’d saturate the ground pretty good with the plant wash for about a foot or so out from wall.

Thanks Racer. I’m concerned about the runoff too. Gonna need to shimmy my way behind the big hedge on the side to get some plant wash down.

I agree with racer

Agree with Rick. He’s who I call when I run into something research doesn’t make clear. @Racer thanks again for your mentoring.

Concur with @Racer, soak the soil.

The sides don’t look too bad. Heck strong HW mix may get most of it. Make sure you carry a good spray guy with you and don’t bid it cheap just in case you have to buy a bush or 2.

What is this spray gun you speak of?
