I know this is an old topic, but in case anyone else finds themselves in a similar situation, I felt there was another option that had not been explored. If I had a partner in business and faced the prospect of gainful employment, I would consider dividing the duties of the business with the partner. Assuming the business is the only work the partner has, he can work the jobs while you work your day job. In your off time you focus on marketing, book-keeping and sales. Your partner will collect a fair salary for the work they do plus half the net profit. You will collect a much smaller salary for the limited time you spend on the business plus half the net profit. By making sure your partner is compensated more than you, they donât feel like they are getting the short end of the stick and you donât have to give up the business you built together. Eventually you are going to reach the point where your partner cannot do all the work himself. At that point evaluate whether to jump on a second truck or hire a new employee to do so. Go all in once you are confident that you can pay yourself enough to cover your day job salary.
I was just searching G to find out if starting a pw business is an option. I am close to retirement age. I was let go from a rather long lasting job as a clerk early this year. I am used to not making much money obviously, but I am not afraid of hard work and I have always longed for self-employment. I grossed about 40K last year. Much less than the banker. My wife works part time, so resources are limited. I do not have a truck. I do not own a trailer or equipment. I do have money saved in the bank. I have researched dozens of these online marketing scams. No thanks, looking for something ârealâ. Is this a pipe dream? I could live on 30 grand a year after taxes and expenses.
You probably âcouldâ but youâre looking at a lot of money up front, especially if you have to buy vehicles, etc. Plus, itâs pretty hard work. Iâd recommend finding a guy outside your area who will let you do some âlabor-for-learningâ and work with him for 2-3 days (in a row) and see how you do physically before taking any further steps.
Where are you? Maybe you can work with me for a day or two before I shut down for the season.
Oh, winter wont be here for awhile. Great idea though. Thanks.
i say nobody here even buzztbystander makes 100K a yearâŚ
obviously itâs not all profit by any means but my wife keeps a running total of recieved payments because it makes me happy. 7 more working weeks so we should break the million mark with no problem
Sorry Iâm not smart enough to know how to screen shot on a computer. I have to take a pic of the screen with my phone.
For the life of me i couldnât figure out the 99 cents until she told me it wss from late penalties for overdue properties
I would say that you are wrong.
IBS (Iâm only guessing) probably pulls at least 7 figures gross.
My first year, while putting in 55-60 hours a week at my real job. I have made close to 20 K, with no advertising ( other than the $75 wasted on door hangers and the $120 wasted on yard signs, I have got 3 jobs from them collectively)
Part-time, and I mean PART-TIME, meaning Saturdays. I worked one Sunday job ( Forgive me Father) and maybe one or two after work, during the week this summer.
Itâs all went back to the business and I will hit it harder next year.
Washing is like anything else. You can make as much as you want as long as you put the time and effort into it. This is about my 4th business and Iâm kinda burnt out on work in general and washing in specific. A young go getter could make a fortune if it wasnât for the decades you have to put in making contacts and contracts. Vicious cycle and Iâm hoping to get flung off soon Buy the best equipment you can borrow money to buy and beat the bushes, knock doors and hand out cards starting out and you will make as much as is meant for you to make.
There is only one way to successâŚHard Work.
Put in your time and dedication and this industry is an easy six months, and six figure income.
The money is there, and there is alot of it.
The two things I advise all to do earlier then later with part of the profits.
Always reinvest a % into maintaining and growing.
Continue to invest a % into a retirement plan, 401k, mutal fund ectâŚWe have the luxury of large amounts of quick funds. Put them to good use and invest now while you can. You wont regret it in 10 to 15 years.
Year 3 here and $180k after all the checks from the last two commercial jobs and two more houses to finish the season.
This is since August when I started using Housecall Pro and doesnât include labor on the mega church or the townhome community since HCP wonât let you invoice for just materials those are set up as separate options and I try to get payment up front for lifts, SH, delivery etc.Hereâs the approval for the townhomes.
The last 6 weeks of the season will be $31k in revenue.
Doing 6- and 7- figures is not impossible by any means. At our prices, overhead, and wages I can do $1mil with 4 trucks. 8 employees.
Then you would be me and we all know the forum canât handle two of you, much less two of me. But your math is spot on. Pretty much my business model.
And at least 20% to employee pay top cover what we have to match and workers comp.
Does your keyboard have those buttons?
Also, googling how to screenshot works too.
You have been doing this for 3 years 2015, 2016 and 2017. Not to be mean but shouldnât you have that answer by now?
For you to make 100 grand take home and you partner to make 100 grand take home ( no other employees) you will need to do 350 grand in business.
If you work 5 days a week (weekends off) and take 2 weeks vacation and another week sick personal time that leaves you with 49 working weeks or 245 working days⌠350 grand divided by 245 equals $1428.00 a day⌠You would need to produceâŚ
Spot on. I do my figuring on legal pads also
I have those buttons but I thought it was to print what was on the screen. Sometimes itâs easier to just not know than learn new stuff
I seriously canât wait to be there one day. I want a ateady/busy 4-5 days a week. Just starting out I feel good. But getting worried about running out of jobs. I feel like itâs starting off so good too soon. Any suggestions are good. So far itâs been a lot of word of mouth. I have truck signs coming shortly and shirts.
