How do you secure equipment on your open trailer?

Home Depot sells these loop hooks from husky that I just screwed into deck of trailer and ratchet strapped everything down works great for me

This is not only immoral but highly illegal and will land you in prison in a heartbeat.

Oh, Really. Is that why you’re always the first one to talk down to someone trying to learn on this forum.(because of your gentleman like behavior) I made a comment, you didn’t like it… got butt hurt about it, and now you feel that I should leave the forum because I have a different opinion than you? Make’s alot of sense. Very gentleman like…How about we agree to disagree and move on about our live’s, Seem’s much simpler .

To each their own. I never said that I have done that or will do something as such. I merely made a suggestion (jokingly more than anything).

I don’t believe I have talked down to anyone. If I have, so be it. I won’t apologize for how my words are received by others. I have given sound advice. I’m not butt hurt by your words. They don’t affect me as I don’t live near you or your grandfather. I gave you the benefit that you might be speaking without thinking. Either way, you advocated death for larcerny. That’s unacceptable in any civilization. And this forum. If you were joking it’s in poor taste but I guess pardonable. Definitely not worth the death sentence. (That was humor) Carry on.

I know this is an old post, however I was inclined t point out that you mentioned the laws of Jesus. Thank you for that!

My trailer (enclosed) has a movement/vibration sensor and a REALLY loud alarm (from a motorcycle).

It’s in a small locked section at the front, so they have to break two locks to stop it.

I know it’s not going to stop determined thieves - but for $50 - it’s bound to send them running or give me time to get to it.

It’s like this one…

I have never heard of this in my life but last year there were 3 travel trailers stolen from a local lake. All had hitch locks on them. One thing they didnt think about was safety chains. You can very easily hook those around a ball, raise the jack til all the weight is on the chains and drive away.
Ever since I learned that I wrap the safety chains around the backside of the jack and padlock them together.

My uncle had one of his daughters x boyfriends repeatedly steal stuff from their vehicles. This has been 15 years or so ago. Well one night he heard his truck door open and he ran outside (unarmed) to catch him. He ran down the road and jumped in his car. My uncle jumped in his truck and proceeded to chase him while on the phone with 911. This dumb kid decides to break check my uncle chasing him and ended up getting rear ended! My uncle stoped chasing him after he did that but he hit him hard enough to knock the plate off the car. Needless to say he got all his stuff back as well as TONS of other reported stolen stuff when they served a search warrant. I do not say this is good advice but I can’t say I wouldn’t do the same. If someone was stealing my stuff in the middle of the night I would chase them down in an attempt to recover.

Most states have laws that prohibit a person from using force to protect their property. I don’t know how it is in other states but in Texas you may even be justified in using deadly force to protect your property. I grew up in rural parts of Texas and theft was pretty rare compared to the metro areas. That was, in part, due to the fact that if you were caught trying to jack something you had a VERY high chance of being shot…repeatedly. An armed society is a polite society after all.

If someone really wanted to steal the trailer then anything to do with the tongue won’t help. They can just bring their own chains, wrap around the tongue or body of the trailer, hook to their back end, unbolt the jack or roll it up and takeoff. I feel the best way would be to lock the wheels somehow. The sound and marks from the tires left by dragging it away would make them want to leave it. Don’t want them following the marks and don’t want other people hearing what’s happening

I know of a lady whose lawn biz trailer got dragged away even with locked wheels. From her house. Probably, it got winched onto another trailer.

There are people who make a living stealing other people’s stuff. Professional crews. They just don’t hang out in the cities, they travel. Some crews are finding it easier to work in more urban areas. I live in the boondocks, but areas around me have been hit for side by sides or other atvs. One night they roll in and take all the stuff they have been looking at for a little while. Roll out and sell it. Easy peasy. They had a crew stealing diesel fuel in my area before too, they hit my tractor and got 2 gallons. Nice guys/gals they actually put the fuel cap back on. They tried hitting my home heating oil tank too, but never got any for some reason.

I think if some one really wants something, they will get it. Biggest thing is to have the rig insured so if it is stolen you can get everything back. Just a PITA.

They have small GPS trackers you can mount under the trailer where no one can see it or to individual pieces of equipment. Thieves won’t suspect you have a trailer or a pressure washer GPS tracked.

I’ve been contemplating an on-board alarm system for my enclosed.

Ya, I’ve been looking at some of the sub $200 ones on amazon, they do what they need to do. Even if it gave you a last location. Generally it’s probably just tweakers and common thieves, not gone in 60 seconds, I doubt they’d know it was there until they dismantled the whole thing.

You can trackers on Amazon for around $50 that have reasonable month subscriptions. Tuck it underneath the trailer on the frame and no one will ever know it’s there.

Yep GPS trackers work. My corvette has on star GPS tracking. I rent it out with Turo. 35th rental rented it for a week. Turns out he took it to Arizona with no plans to return it. Gave the location to Turo they sent a tow truck and I got my car back. It works.

Ya I have a good one on my truck, just got through dealing with a lying dealership. “Oh ya, we’ve been working on it all day” …hmmm, it hasn’t been started or moved from the back parking lot, wanna try that again?

You make decent money with Turo? I knew a guy early on that had a small fleet for turo, he did great, not sure now though.
