Dude! Where are you at?? And better yet, are you catching anything?
Iām down in the pacific, we donāt have much in our lakes except for the occasional cellphone and sunglasses. Went for a quick couple of nights roughing it up on the boat just before Christmas looking for some out of season marlin, got skunked and came home with nothing. Will be going wider out again early March if weather and wife permit. Last years fishing in general wasnāt all that great, plenty of good eaters but nothing on the trophy list.
No, Iāve known a lot of dedicated saltwater fisherman. One of my old bosses was a huge fan of marlin chasing. Just my personal experience going out in either the Chesapeake or the Atlanticā¦it was usually a āletās drink, heckle one another, and take turns grabbing the rod when something hitsāā¦used to catfish quite a bit as a teen too, was just more of a chill and wait thing. I also enjoy the (what seems to me) more adversarial aspect of working a lure to entice a bite of bass fishing.
Well I hope youāre in an awesome spot! Sounds like you are. Iāve only been to the beach a few times, but I was always looking at the small waters that separate islands from the mainland; they look like freshwater at a glance. Thatās where Iād want to toss a line.
I donāt mind the lures i actually love them , I take some plastics out with me whenever I go out, I fish with very light gear when Iām in the shallow water 3-4 kg rod and 6 pound braid. Every fish you catch on light gear is good fun of either snapping your rod or getting the fish, brings a bit of excitement on a dull day.
Like any part of the world you take for granted what you have right outside your door step sometimes. It is great though, plenty of action. Yeah youāre onto it those underwater guts and channels is where the fish navigate through, I have a whole SD card of spots Iāve saved over the years, they always hold fish.
It always looks like a more peaceful place to fish, or better yet take a kayak fishing. Iāve fished freshwater dams with 4 generators blasting away, yet seen more big fish at the feeder creek nearby. If I were them, Iād want to get away from the current too. Thatās what Iām trying to do now. I feel their pain.
