Why don’t you just try it
I’m gonna grab it sometime. Thanks for the info
I’m not sure you can even get it. Unless you drive to VA. Pressure works doesn’t ship chemicals
Brown stuff is a commodity product that goes by many names. I was first introduced to it in the HVAC industry as a coil cleaner, and then as a heavy duty car wash. It’s super duper high in sodium hydroxide, some versions also have a bit of potassium hydroxide.
I can’t say it neutralizes SH, more like it overpowers it and breaks it because I’m saying this stuff is well over 15% sodium hydroxide…meaning over 30% caustic soda at 50%. It is NOT a good degreaser because it doesn’t have any solvent in there but it’s so high in caustic it breaks through things and has extra rinsing agents so it may appear like a degreaser…but really it isn’t.
This is what I call a shock product. It is soooooo strong it kicks everything’s butt so people make a whole lot of claims about it, but really it’s like sending in a nuke when a firecracker could take care of the issue. It MUST be heavily diluted if it’s going to touch aluminum because I’ve seen this stuff cut 50\50 with water and still cause aluminum to start bubbling on contact. If you don’t rinse it well it will corrode pretty much anything.
Does that answer your question?
Just an FYI, sodium hydroxide is in SH…hydroxide itself isn’t bad, it’s that it’s strong and people use it incorrectly and then blame the chemical…in other words it’s usually operator error.
Probably just going to stick with my normal sh, soap, water mix. Thanks @CaCO3Girl for chiming in! Always great to see you share your knowledge on here
Thanks a lot! I figured it was high in sodium hydroxide due to the color but I wasn’t positive. Do you think there is validity to the claim that it protects vegetation because it neutralizes the bleach after the fact? That’s the part I still don’t get. It’s written like it is delayed release neutralizer, which makes no sense to me…I have used sodium thiosulfate as a neutralizer, but it works immediately. I didn’t know you could mix something with your bleach that will then make your bleach stop working, but not right away?
Sodium hydroxide is clear, making it that color requires a different chemical.
No, to the vegetation claim. When using sodium hydroxide it’s best to water rinse before, then water rinse after use. This is another case where the word neutralization is obscure. It’s not neutralizing it’s a berserker that destroys. It’s also has a wicked high pH so it shouldn’t be near vegetation.
Sodium thiosulfate is an excellent way to neutralize SH
@CaCO3Girl is Sodium thiosulfate safe for plants ? Could I make my own plant wash with it ?
Yes, sodium thiosulfate is a great neutralizer and doesn’t hurt plants. Lots of information on the internet on what formula you need based on your SH strength to neutralize. It’s especially good at rinsing and neutralizing SH on windows.
However, I’d still always do a clean water rinse before and after on vegetation.
I wish I could get it! I thought they just didn’t ship to California I didn’t know it was no shipping at all. Makes you wonder why they even offer it online to put into a shopping cart lol. I wonder if there is a similar product that I could buy online? Anyone know of something similar? I keep getting requests to clean new concrete and I’m turning them down until I can find a solution to sort of two step it with sh and then this type of product…
