Gx 690 reducing throttle

I run my Ryobi electric PW at 3/4 throttle all the time with no issues. Just sayin’

Rather than pick a petty fight with you, id rather hear your reasoning why it should be run full throttle.

I gave my reasoning early. Engineers determined it was best. That is why Toro and other manufactures took throttles off of small engines and factory set them at WOT. Faster flywheel turns, more air cooling engine. WOT means less carbon build up in throttle body. Research it man. I’m not trying to change your mind. I don’t care how long your equipment lasts. Any small engine mechanic will tell you what I’m saying. It isn’t something new. You have a tendency to argue about stupid stuff so I’ll let you continue the conversation with yourself

Probably not worth it for small engines. I just stick with Honda oil

You act like I’m the only one that disagrees with you. Lol. And I don’t totally disagree, as I mentioned other circumstances where these engines are used where wide open throttle would be best.

Crazy glue dries the fastest, and Purina by far makes my dog fart the most.

Ok here’s what I’m going to do. I will call Honda USA tomorrow and settle this once and for all.

I will also call the main small engine repair shop here in town and ask what happens if a GX is throttled down a bit for extended periods of time.

The gx690s on my hydro-tek skids don’t have throttles. I think I’ll trust their judgement.

I truly want to know this either way, all the other air cooled engines out there run just fine at varying throttle speeds.

Doesn’t really matter. I don’t think anyone is going to start their engine wide open when they are already used to warming it up at a lower rpm. If Honda says to always run it wide open are you going to make your kid run his go kart pedal to the metal? Doubtful.

Maybe so you don’t over rev the pump. Not saying that’s why, but could be. Is there a spot for the throttle, and it was removed by hydro-tek, or is it not existent all together.

From the gx690 manual. Says to set the engine speed according to the recommended speed of the equipment. If your equipment requires 2500 rpm you set it to 2500. If your equipment requires 3500 you set it to 3500. Nowhere does it say you’ll"destroy your engine" if you don’t run it wide open.

Go karts had me thinking too, they use Honda GX engines at the tracks I’ve seen.

(Question about machine throttle) is the thread, alot of ppl have machines with no throttle

Like I said above, I would run the engine wide open when you have a consistent load (like cutting tall grass) as to not lug the engine. With a pressure washer, your load decreases as your rpm’s decrease.

Yes,but so does your water flow. I run mine w/o. I don’t need lower psi or gpm. But I also squirt trucks not house’s.

Correct, your flow also decreases, but the argument was if it was detrimental to your engine. The Honda manual states nowhere that you’ll"destroy your engine"if you don’t run it wide open. In fact it says the opposite by stating you can run it between 2000 and 3600rpm. I also run my machine wide open from start to finish. I’m using a 5.5gpm at 2500psi, and want all the flow and pressure I can get out of it.

Hey there Will I’m curious to know how many Honda’s you have gone through over the years,
I bet it’s a fair few

Only the ones he throttle down crapped out on him. The wide open ones are still going strong. Lol
