Got a smoker... best place for info

It’ll do the job. I’ve got and have had a lot of outdoor cooking equipment. The cast iron grates will be fine for awhile. Just brush them with some cooking oil when you season grill, they’ll be fine.

Nice deck by the way.

Build a fire and let it burn til it stops smelling like burning paint. Bigger fire the better

appreciate it. It gets very hot in summer, but its nice.

Man… those whole wood burning nonsense takes some patience when it comes to fire management.

Trying to season it now and it said to do 200 for 4 hours basically… woods is too big i think, got miter saw out to make smaller pieces now.

Yeah, I love the flavor of wood, but it’s as much an art as a science when it comes to cooking on it. It’s a rare occasion treat around here due to time constraints.

I dont own a gas grill but am considering it for convenience. It takes about an hour to clean, light and burn out my pit. Then wait til the temp comes down. I meal prep for my two weeks at work and i can fill the entire rack with whatever and never have to worry about a grease fire. My favorite it boneless skinless chicken thighs.

Pros and cons like anything, you’ll never get the same flavor with gas, but you can be ready to grill in 10 minutes… so it has its place. I’m in love with a guy from works big green egg. It seems as much oven as grill and he doesn’t do crap to it once he has a bed of coals…

Thats why i converted to ceramic… or you can convert it to lava rocks.

@12_B the convenience of a gas grill quickly wears off when you taste the food, it’s night and day difference. Wood all the way.

You can’t beat the color or flavor. It’s one of my favorite hobbies

Yeah i cant even begin to say how much i love my weber genesis, only 3 burners, but love it.

As the day went i was able to learn a little more about how the smoker does with heat… i will have to add a few more coal lumps in addition to wood just to keep that heat i believe… i did not add any after initial start up today.

@12_B mine too, nothing like stinking of Bbq smoke, belly full of meat and staring at my rig in the driveway looking at how I could make it better :joy:

Something about that wording is throwing me off.

Those green eggs are cool, pricey, but cool. Have a buddy who only uses his for steaks, prime rib, cookies, and bacon.

The best smoker is one owned by someone else who is really good at it and likes to share

I dont think i disagree with you right now.

@Innocentbystander same train of thought my friends have with my rigs :joy:

… I’m afraid I have to agree with your assessment.

Well did ya end up cooking something tasty @Donut ?

That’s the exact way I feel about a boat.
