… well the VA and I had an issue, I finally got bad enough with my sleep issues, and jumpiness I couldn’t shake, that I decided to go in to talk to a real doctor about it… instead they sent me to talk to an honest to god chaplain who said that my lack of faith was a root cause of my issues… that didn’t go over well so I didn’t go back till a few years ago.

That’s absolutely insane. It’s understandable that around the time we got that the VA didn’t know how to treat or diagnose because most of it was new to them but come on! What next? An exorcism?
I had a rough go with my first doctor. Nothing like your experience but I ended up switching docs two more times and eventually landed a good one. Our local VA clinic is amazing so we’re really fortunate here. It just sucks that a hospital is 2-4 hours away. I’m not sure what all has changed but I was able to get a mri at a private hospital a month ago so they’re definitely making progress.

Yeah it left a really bad taste in my mouth. I’m not exactly a font of emotion on the best of days, and never in my life been the guy that asked for help with anything… But I was literally shaking with rage after that meeting. Could be it’s better now but thankfully ive never needed emergency services and I’ve handled my own minor issues like a broken toe and the two times I’ve needed sutures myself.
I’ll use them if I have to but, definitely not something I ever expected to have to deal with.
