First paid jobs

As a newby, I am coming of a great weekend with hopes of washing even more. I did three house over the past weekend and have three lined up for this week after work. I love hearing my customers say “wow!” I also like bring checks home to my wife to deposit in the business account. She is starting to believe!!! Here a few photos from the worse job I had. Took me 2.5 hours. I’m hoping to get better with time. I made $1000 for three jobs. Thanks for all the advice given to me. Appreciate you all!

Hope I do as well, great job.
Did you have to move furniture or anything?

Back when I painted houses I used to charge 100 bux a room to move things, people had no issues with that.

Did you do a pre and post treat on the patio? If not I think that would have gotten it quite a bit cleaner.

316,

Yes I moved the items off the patio and put them back. It was the home of an older couple. They want me back to clean the brick wall that goes around the patio. I am studying now to learn the best effective way to clean brick. I did not charge extra for them. Now when I provide quotes I will make sure I make those expectations clear. Good luck to you this season as well.

I did Pre treat before I started. I did not post treat. Thank you for that tip. I will be mindful of that going forward.

Why would you not clean that wall the first time? No offense, but no way I could have left that without cleaning it.

You sound like someone who has been in the business for a while and you know your stuff. I am fresh out the gate and I handled what I was proficient at. I am going back this weekend to specifically clean the wall. I didn’t get it done when I was there because I didn’t know how to clean it. I didn’t know what chemicals to use on brick. Feel free to criticize my work but I will not give anyone a reason to question my ethics. The homeowner appreciated my honesty and booked me for Saturday. Since that time I have done my homework and practiced on my home. Next time I will feel confident enough to tackle the job while I’m there. No elaborate answer just the truth.

My apologies if my question came across as rude or as if I was criticizing your work. Not my intention at all. I was just asking, but I do appreciate your honesty. And no, I am only starting my second year and still have a lot to learn myself. Honestly though, that wall would have probably been included with the house from my standpoint. I will admit that I can be a little OCD about things and I don’t have any “quick” house washes. I probably spend more time than I should on certain things, but I try and take care of as much as I can while I’m there. Granted, we all do things differently and as long as the customer was happy, that’s all that matters. So kudos man, great job!

Your question was valid. I wanted to handle it but just didn’t know how. I enjoy the feedback and would have been wondering the exact same thing had I seen that wall in your photo or someone else’s. Sounds like we are a lot alike. I too want to be known for good work.

That’s what its all about my friend! I do a lot of brick. Just hit it with your house mix and use a little pressure. You can definitely go a little hotter on your mix, but if you don’t have a dedicated system or don’t want to use a pump up, just hit it with your house mix. It will clean up nicely. Brick takes a little more time, but looks great when you get it clean. Sounds like your off to a good start so keep up the work man.

Talk about itnor be about it! Nice work keep it up!

What size is your surface cleaner? Is it a floaty or castors?

The reason I ask is that I do walls very fast, and quite a lot of them too. Yep, I use my small surface cleaner.

Bottom upwards, then across the top. Takes minutes, no mess or grit in your eyes either.

My method is to always hit the walls with a backpack and strong mix first. Then go about the rest of your work. (I realize you can’t this time).

With a normal housewash application, you’re not going to get the black out of the mortar. You can do a lot of mortar damage with the gun/wand trying to.

If you do walls, it’s totally worth having a small, second surface cleaner.

Thanks for the tip. I have a 20” hammerhead floaty. I’m going back tomorrow to clean the wall. I’m gonna hit it with roof mix and let it dwell for 10 to 15 min. I will send photos of finished product. Not leaving until it’s clean. I also plan to remove that rust from the patio.

Thank you!

Yeah, that’s a bit big, ha ha! I have a small one just for steps and walls like this…

(My 20” has wheels as I do a lot of flat work)

Looking forward to the after pics :+1:t2:

I keep a couple of the cheap 15” surface cleaners around just for this. Works great
