Electrical Fires are No Joke

Electrical outlet shorted although is GFCI, was caulked and we had taped it as usual.
My employee washed the side then told me he saw some smoke. It was coming from inside the wall above the outlet. I asked homeowner to close the main breaker and get out, and i called the fire department.

Now the homeowner would like us to keep washing but i’m wary other outlets may have issues even though we tape them.

The fire department tore open the outside of his house and he’s just like “Wash away!”

Ah, that sucks man. My advice would be to stop while you’re ahead on that one.

Hate that happened to you, but thankfully your employee said something which led to everyone staying safe. Try to enjoy vacation!

Everyone who had similar experiences, how did it go in your case to avoid being held responsible for the damage?

I can’t really help ya here as there was no real damage to the house that I washed except for the wires that burnt, and the cost of the utility company to come out and disconnect power (if they charged for that). The homeowner paid for an electrician to come and upgrade the main line into the house. I never gave the homeowner a chance to ask me to pay for anything. I just said I’m sorry this happened to your house because of your faulty wiring. Got my check and left. They even called me to do another property for them. Good luck with though man. 10K deductible sucks.

When you didn’t do something wrong, positioning and controlling the narrative is 99% of the battle.

If you run into Paul K, tell him William had some more cat jokes for him. He’ll probably buy you a drink

always carry this, and trip all outlets.
Let the homehowner know so that he could turn on the braker

always carry fire extinguishers also, got 2 on my trailer, on each side

I tripped, I assume, a covered gfci plug once, and I didnt even spray it, it was just from the atomization inside front doorway entrance. you dont need to spray badly insulated plugs to set them off.
