Does Anybody use a bucket truck or box truck?

Ive seen tons of trucks pulling power washing rigs on open trailers and being so new to the business I am already tired of cleaning pine straw off my setup. so ive decided to purchase an enclosed trailer or box truck.

While looking around I stumbled on a few decent looking bucket trucks (Ariel lift boom trucks) and was just curious if anybody used 1 for their business instead of renting lifts?

Also how about box trucks, these seem like perfect vehicles for a PW business but I don’t see anybody using them locally, so what do they know that I do not quite see yet?

I know a local company that uses all flat bed trucks and that would be nice but I do not have an indoor spot to keep my truck/ trailer unless I rent a storage unit (Or upgrade my house ha… yeah not going to happen anytime soon)

I drive a dodge 2500 service truck right now and I love all the storage room so a plane enclosed trailer isnt out of the question but id like to gather some opinions first.

Thanks guys.

GuyB has contributed to a few threads about using box trucks. Plus, he has a thread on here showing s box truck build he did not long ago.

Can you not fit your machine, etc in the service bed of the truck you have?

Ohh thanks I’ll look his post up and try to find the threads thank you.

As far as fitting my stuff in my truck I could but it would be very tight and I’d have no room to grow and I’m looking into chemical tanks and a 8gpm cold water unit in the near future

10’ Box would be perfect for a residential unit…Love my box truck!!!

GuyB do you have any trouble with airflow (as far as exhaust is concerned) or do you have it piped outside the box (I can’t tell from the pictures)

No upper left hand corner (not pictured) is a 110v fan powered by a inverter, that draws power from reel battery, that’s charged from PW’er…boy that’s a lot of powered by…lol.

Really no problem with exhaust because of side doors. Motors breath fresh air, and side doors provide air flow out the back.

Ok…That makes perfect sense! Sounds like you put a lot of thought into that setup…Thanks for the info!

GuyB, How many gallons is that water tank and where did you get it? Is the hole in the middle help reduce the “slosh” effect when breaking?

I use to run out of a van. I hated it!!! I now have open trailer and love it. So long as you have a place to store it. I can def see the advantages of Guy setup as well. Just have a back up plan because if the truck breaks down so do you!

300 gal tank Andrew, yes the hole is a baffle to reduce water movement. I actually forgot where I got it from…google “Doorway Tank”… they aren’t cheap.

You mean like this???..

Haha yes Guy! That’s a great rebuttal love it

Not cheap? Good… most of my equipment’s not :stuck_out_tongue:

GuyB would you mind posting a picture or two of the fan you installed? That sounds like a great ventilation system, and I’d like to get a closer look at it…I’m thinking of going with a box truck as well.

No problem Jesse, I’d like to say that this was all my design, truth is my good Friend William Page gave me a lot of input on building this truck…With Many Thanks From Me.

Hope this helps…

Thank you so much for posting those pictures…that helps a lot! Not trouble running the inverter off of your power washer’s charging system? Looks like I may have to copy your copied idea!

That setup looks very nice. I am pretty sure ill be picking up a box truck early next year.

It’s actually powered by the reel battery…that’s charged by the PW’er…and no, no problems…just make sure it’s a deep cycle marine type battery.

Good to know…Thank you!

GuyB do you think a 12 volt fan would move enough air in a box with no side doors? It looks like I’m gonna be getting a truck sooner than I will be stepping up to 8gpm, so the only charging system I’ll have will be vehicle’s charging system.

I’ll have the on board system charge my roof pump battery and run the 12 volt fan off of that.
