Cox or GP reel opinion

Got them both added to cart. Here’s my quagmire.

The GP is 5,000 psi
The COX is 3,000 psi

I’m running 8.5 gpm at 3,600 psi

Will the cox handle this? The 2 cox will cost me about $80 more than the GP on Amazon’s with my free prime shipping.

If people thing the GP is a decent reel then I will go with that.

I don’t want or need anything more expensive or electric. Maybe down the road but not needed at this time.

I’m using the cox reels with a 4000 psi 7 gpm pump no problem. I’ve never had good luck with anything else GP with the exception of the metering injectors.

I have 2 GP reels. One 300’ and one 150’. They run smooth and the swivels have never been stuck. Held up well. I like them.

Ever had a GP pump?

Just Hammerheads, a hot water trigger that failed when using hotwater and burnt my wrist pretty bad, and a pile of injectors until I was smart enough to buy stainless steel.

Titan reels are better.
Powder coat will rust after a while.

You also have Hannay.

Can you measure your 300footer from end of handle to end of input shaft? Total width. It says 23 inches online but I don’t know if that’s total from handle end to shaft end. I am mounting 2 side by side and I’m trying to determine mow much area they are going to take up on my skid.

I just ordered a Hannay with a 5000psi bar for less then the GP you’re looking at. The way I look at it is that I would rather spend good money once and have the quality over trying to save a few bucks and end up spending more in the long run.

Where did you buy that from?

Basic Hannay reels are 250 bucks on sprayer depot atm with free shipping.

At Qspray.com. I can give you a contact there. I had to call to order it. I had a hard time finding a high pressure reel online. They are a little more when you order with the 5000psi bar over the standard 3000psi. I paid $360 shipped. Not sure if it’s the best deal out there but it was the best I found.

I thought you said it was less than the GP shipped? Confused now I guess.

Doesn’t that say $389.94? Either way I’d go with the quality of Hannay.

Edit: I see now that’s for 2, my mistake.

Anything wrong with this Hannay IBS? As Sharpe mentioned $250 and free shipping. It’s only rated at 3000 psi but I assume it can probably handle 10,000 psi just to cover their butts? Any reason not buy it or is it worth upgrading to another model for any reason?

It doesn’t list much for specs but I got this from another site.

Hannay 1526-17-18 Manual Rewind Hose Reel

Manual Rewind Hose Reel, includes Steel Super Swivel (1/2")

The Hannay 1526-17-18 holds 300’ of 1/2" ID spray hose or 400’ of 3/8" spray hose

From what i read the 1520 is rated for higher pressure if secificly requested but it holds less hose length.

I personally wouldn’t get one that big. I only run 250 foot hoses. That one is for 400 feet, but yes, I’d buy a Hannay over any other reel on the market.

Word, I just ordered four 1514’s and four 1526’s from SD. I dig the new machine grey metallic they are using now even though Hannay’s paint prep is so horrible now and it chips very easily. I just need to color match it for touch ups and strip my other reels down to freshen them up after I do the manifolds and bearings on them.

Do you know if the 1520 will comfortably hold 250’ of 3/8" hose? It says it will hold 275’ but I remember seeing a thread saying the reel barely held what it said it could and you had to make sure you reeled the hose up really nice for it to fit. I don’t think it was a Hannay reel that they were using though.

The original poster on the thread uses a 1/2" hose so the 1520 might not work for him. The 1526 should if he’s okay with a 3000 psi rating or able to get a 5,000 psi bar in it. It sounds like they can swap out bars all the way up to 10,000 psi. I’m sure the price reflects the upgrade though.

I guess another thing is there are quite a few people who don’t plumb there hose through the hose reel and just use it to store the hose. If that’s the case the psi rating isn’t an issue. I haven’t decided if I’ll do that or not. It would just be something else to hook up but would it’s not like it would take long.

@SchertzServicesLLC I know you requested measurements for the GP reel but I came across the specs for the 1500 Series Hannay reel. It has a diagram and measurements that might be helpful if you look into them at all.
