Cast Iron Cookware

Okay all you foodies and chefs out there, what is your favorite piece of cast iron cookware? I have a handful of pieces that I love using and I pretty much refuse to cook on anything else. We have a brand new set of some high dollar copper cookware that’s never even been opened because I don’t see the point in it. My favorite piece of cast iron is actually my newest one and it’s some no brand cheapo that came with a skillet brownie mix. It’s about 4" and fries an egg perfectly in about a minute and a half. I’m the only one that really eats breakfast so I started using this little guy and it’s perfect because I can whip up two eggs in it by the time my bacon is done frying in the bigger cast iron pan. No more cold bacon because I had to wait for the grease to cool down before frying and egg!

2 eggs ,Is that it !! Takes 2 days for my chickens to lay what I can eat in one sitting.

I ate 8 the other day , 6 for breakfast saved the other 2 for a sammy.
I do love cast iron though, Definitely the best to cook with, I rub lard on mine to keep them nice but I can’t use them on this yankee glass stove, we just moved and that’s what was here, but there is gas behind it to hook up to, getting a new stove after the rest of the house has been fixed. Just spent 4k on a new roof not 2 mths ago.

Yeah, I have no problem putting down a half dozen eggs and a pound of bacon but we’re “dieting” so I’ve been watching how much I eat and trying to exercise more. Two eggs, three strips of bacon and a coffee with sugar free creamer seems to be the sweet spot where I’m not full but I’m not starving in two hours either. Why can’t you use them on the glass top? I do it every day with no problems and I even read that the test kitchen for Lodge Cast Iron uses a glass top stove for their product testing.

Completely unnecessary. You could’ve called a house scrubber and had that roof restored by a quarter of that! Silly rubber scrubbers…

I love that show !
I was under the assumption that it be 2 heavy for a glass top stove, I don’t have kid gloves, more of a bull in China shop fella.
My wife would crap herself if I put the 12" cast iron up there. But I do like a challenge.
And btw your cooking your eggs wrong, sunny side up Tex and leave a lil yellow for beard coloring.

Now, don’t go quoting me to the pine knot when you mess something up but you should be perfectly fine using cast iron on a glass top. Just don’t slide the pans at all and whatever you do DON’T DROP THEM lol

No, sir! Over easy for me since I was knee high to a rattlesnake! I got to be able to sop up that yolk with my toast (the boss made me buy some 45 calorie whole wheat yada yada yada BS) or I’m not satisfied. I’ve had sunnyside up and it’s good but over easy with a big old splash of Tabasco and I’m happy

Had to go down to her bones, some idiot thought they could put an addition on with 2×4 trusses 24" OC, now its 2×6’. But we knew that going in, now its 2×6’s 12" OC. The rest of the house was 2×8’s ,16 OC thankfully.

Went with 40yr metal roof , 1" foam underneath blown in insulation, can heat this place with a candle now.

LOL 2x4’s for roof trusses just doesn’t work. Especially spaced that far apart. I love a tin roof when it rains and they just last so much longer. The only bad thing I’ve heard about a tin roof is people not putting enough of an overlap on the ridge cap and they get water intrusion and rot their attic out.

Correct, and if you lay down foam board under tin you also gotta leave around a half inch gap between the 2 or it will sweat ,causing the same problem.

You mean one of those box looking things that bakes it and everything or do you mean a Kitchenaid thing? We have the Kitchenaid and I’ve never actually seen one of those bread machines in person.

Oh wow I didn’t know that but it makes sense!

Have you tried a Dutch oven yet ?

I have a couple Dutch ovens. I had three but one was completely rusted to death from years of neglect so I scrapped it. We have an enameled cast iron dutch oven that is just a beauty to cook with. It cooks very even and cleanup is literally about 15 seconds lol

Bad part is that wasn’t even her birthday present I just happened to walk in Wally World and they was on sell so I got it. But she swears up and down I bought it for her birthday!

Make her some raisin or zucchini bread in it. ALL by yourself, She’ll give you lovins that will shake the house. Pinky swear.

Have a 10" that’s seasoned perfectly. My steaks don’t touch the grill anymore. Cook in oven till internal temp is close, quick rest, then hard sear in the cast. Will put any steak out there to shame.
