Budget Build

This is my first post after countless hours reading, a TON before I ever created an account. I’m a full time firefighter and recently left my job of 5 years as a mobile electronics technician. I’ve helped a company do Pressure Washing in the past and have decided to make a lifelong dream of owning my own business a reality. This trailer was bought as a striped down camper frame for $350. I decked it with 2x8’s and built my pw with a predator 22hp 670cc (with 2 year warranty :joy::joy: right at $1000) and an Allison 6.8@3500 pump and gear drive ($548), I found a 325 gallon water tank for 100$ on the Facebook so I’ll see if that’s plenty or I need to go bigger. Thank you to everybody on this forum, you have answered a lot of question and concerns! I’ve got a deck cleaning and staining the 23rd that’s over 1300 sq ft so we’ll see how she does. If anyone has any questions on the build or any input I would love to hear it. One question on my set up that I haven’t seen is the throttle controller that detects pressure and lowers the engine to idle when not pulling the trigger anyone have any input or experience with those? Can i use a brass Tee or will that hurt pressure and GPM?

First things first, welcome to the forum!

Now, I do not claim to know everything but I do know just a little bit. However, I have no clue why you would have a ball valve connected to your unloader. That looks like a lot of problems just waiting to happen if that valve gets inadvertently shut. Can you explain the reasoning behind that?

That is on the output side of the unloader that way if I need to change hoses or wands or a hose blows I’ll have a quick way to shut down pressure and the unloader will then kick on and re circulate water.

I see. Seems like you could do any of the things you listed just by shutting down the machine and not have the possibility of a really bad failure. Different strokes for different folks, I guess.

Yep but I like to hear the different strokes cause I might like them :joy:. Well if I just need to swap hoses really quick I would rather not have to shut the engine off just for that. What kinda of failures could be caused by the ball valve being where it is?

That particular brass ball valve is not rated for high pressure

Not a great deal if everything on your setup is working as designed. However, one bad unloader and you being on the trigger when that valve is closed could be a costly mistake.

I can’t think of a single time where I’ve had to “switch” hoses. I’ve had hoses blow and that just means take 30 seconds to shut down the machine and replace the hose and fire back up. I’ve had whip lines blow and same thing. Injector goes bad, same thing.

Get yourself and unloader block ,all that weight and vibration hanging, is gonna snap of your new pump.

Also, what @dperez just said which was going to be my next point but he beat me to it. That thing will not hold up to any real pressure and if your unloader fails you can guarantee that the valve will be immediately behind it.

I have trucks with ball valves right off the burner, some have one right before the hose reel and a few have ball valves on the left and right side. But they are only used to switch out for different length guns. Each truck carries 6 guns in various length one is a low pressure gun

Stainless 2k psi WOG minimum and only used under static pressure

Okay okay I see now, thanks for the heads up everyone glad I have people on this forum so I don’t have to make the same (sometimes costly) mistakes y’all have. I’ll go ahead and take the ball valve off this evening. What exactly does an unloader block do I was trying to research them but never could find a definitive answers. And should I even worry with the idle controller or just take it off?

And HotShot what’s your business name? I don’t want to get to close even tho trucking hotshot and firefighting hotshot is 2 different things :joy::joy:

Ah, the more you know! Very cool. It sounds like there could be a good use for them after all. Nobody tell The Innocent One.

Also ,install some D rings on that trailer and use heavier duty straps for your tank

You can install a clutch on the pulley but I don’t think it’s worth it. If my machines are running they are spraying water, not idling. Why is your machine plumbed opposite of the fire truck you ride. Male end needs to lead.

To late. :joy:

Now that is cool. I especially like the gun rack. I only have two guns and I’ve been trying to figure out how I want to store them. Right now they’re in my toolbox but I’d rather keep them open for easy access.

I know. Dadgumit.
