Can anyone give me some direction on which is the best surface washer? I’m starting with resi primarily, but want to expand to commercial as it comes up.
What do you think us the best manufacturer and what do you consider to be a good “all-round” size? I’m starting with a 4gpm 4000 psi washer.
I really want to be able to bid parking lots, drive-throughs, etc in the future, but I am more interested in saving time on resi driveways and sidewalks right now.

you will need at least an 8gpm, hot water rig, if you are going to focus on flat work. The “best” surface cleaner for a 4gpm is completly different than one for an 8gpm
Thanks for the advice. I’m not going to focus in flat work, I just want to be able to take jobs that come my way. As I grow to the point that I can get a larger set-up I’ll be happy to get a different surface cleaner, I just need to know what I can use with the setup I have for now.

Whisper Wash Classic…all day. Perfect residential machine, but you can easily use it for larger jobs if needed. It is a great size and weight for a 4gpm machine but can also be used on 8gpm (that is what we run and with 8gpm you can fly)

I find the 4 Bar very efficient. With the proper tips installed it is a drastic difference. The best part is you can walk the same speed or slightly faster as a 2 nozzle but rarely (almost never) have to go over the same spot twice, unless it’s some nasty Exposed aggregate and your a stickler for perfection like me Im always looking at making things more efficient so my fabrication shop is building me a 4 nozzle, single bar as seen on the Michael Kreisly YouTube video Four nozzle bar in Whisper Wash Classic surface cleaner - YouTube
Well what I had to do is take my original single spray bar and they cut the arms off and are using the original threads but the Mosmatic machines come with 1/4 inch -ish hose and bars so I have them doing 3/4 inch pipe to maximize the water flow.
Right now I have 8gpm BE 20 inch and 4 gpm 18 inch hammer head and honestly the 4 gpm is just as fast as 8 gpm but I don’t have 1000 surface cleaners either. Do you think that 4 nozzle single bar might work on mine

Just adding nozzles are the key part I think. I’ll know better by Friday. Make sure you have proper tips sized for each machine. I had to change all of mine once I got the 8 GPM and then again when I got the 4 bar. That is key.
No, Not yet, my fab shop messaged me and said he was sick, Monday or Tuesday now and I have a friends driveway and patio lined up for a little trial and error session … I did get in 18 holes for the first time this year though!
Did you ever get to try out the 4 bar? I’m getting a Classic soon and I’m wondering if I should keep two nozzles or go with four. (I’m running a 4gpm machine right now, and will probably stay that way for this year, unless I have a great spring and summer, that is)

Yeah I have the 4 nozzle (4 bar) still installed and works great. I think the nozzles are getting worn out though because it doesn’t seem as affective as when I first installed the 4 bar. Maybe change out the nozzles soon, they probably have 125 hours on them.
The fab shop that attempted at making the 4 nozzle “straight” bar had it spinning the wrong direction and the angles were way too steep so it didn’t even work. Waste of $100 IMO.
I have an 8 GPM machine and the nozzles are pretty small as is. In your case and having a 4 GPM Machine to work effectively the nozzles would have to be extremely small oriface. Maybe have somebody with a 4 GPM machine to tell you otherwise. But when you can… Buy an 8, you won’t be disappointed.
