Im about to buy a quality ball valve but i need some advice. Ive read the debate on how to set them up, male at the end nice for rinsing female at the end so if the o ring fails it blows away from you. Ive also seen on youtube someone with a male in and male out which makes the most sense but then id have to change my tools to have female couplers instead of a male plug. I guess my question is, why doesnt everyone go male male? Is it worth the hassles of changing my gun and surface cleaner from male to female qc. Especially given theyre done with lock tite
Here is a link to some ball valves sold by a company that does a fair bit of business in the U.S. I think you are overseas, maybe an aussie, so look for something similar. Just make sure it is rated for your pressure (obviously) and that it can handle heat if you use heat. Not all ball valves are designed to handle both. There is a grumpy fella on here that will tell you just use your gun and plum everything through it with the male leading. https://pressuretek.com/hose-connections/ball-valves/metal-ball-valves/
Ohhh so male out of the gun, then female with a tip screwed into it or female with and extention ?then what does he get rid of the gun on his surface cleaner and replace it with a female coupler ? Is that a bit dangerours ? Wouldnt he still have to shut down and release pressure to de couple?
There is zero reason to own a ball valve. 1) the temptation to use it as a trigger gun, OSHA violations and won’t pass an insurance audit. 2) everything thing you own should plug into your trigger gun. If you bought a surface cleaner that doesn’t, throw it away and buy a professional grade model.
And male end always leads, with the exception of downstream side of trigger gun, no real way around that
I know there is better equipment but i just got the best i could within my budget. Ive done a few jobs and they have turned out great, at somepoint i will upgrade the SC. Thanks for the video that is currently how my line is setup. So you just turn your machine off when you change tools ?
No, you don’t turn the machine off. The gun stays on the pressure hose, so if you need to change wands, or add a turbo nozzle, or snap on a jrod, the gun trigger isn’t being pulled so it lets you do that.
Once you get a Whisper Wash Ultra Clean or the like, take the gun already on there off and throw it in a bin, then add a male quick connect. Voila, snap the gun into the surface cleaner. @Innocentbystander taught me that.
When you REALLY get in with the cool kids you’ll install a K1 unloader and a remote bypass😆
Wow i just assumed the qc at the end of the gun wouldnt release, i just gave it a go thats so easy!
My next question is how to I attach my gun to the SC ? I already disconnected the qc from the original, and removing the gun is just a few screws.
AUSTRALIA. I can buy a whisper at somepoint and run everything off the gun but at the moment i can swap nozzles at the gun but unless i retro fit the gun to the sc ill need to buy a ball valve or turn the machine off which is a bummer cause the amount ill spend on a nice mtm valve and swivel i could have added to my sc budget and got a whisper 16 oh well
But, more importantly is make sure ALL of your high pressure quick connects go in the same direction. There will be a time, in the middle of a job, when you need to bypass or rearrange something, because of a busted hose or something.
ALSO, get a Mosmatic 3/8" high pressure swivel to put before the ball valve. I promise it is 100% worth the added cost!
