8 gpm machine purchase - 3K or 3.5K

Vibration is the death of a pump. To much flex in aluminum. Holes wallow out. Can’t keep belts tight. I don’t have hot water and can’t give opinion on hot boxes. Udor is king

I’ve got a Landa dealer and he was $3k more for a 8gpm skid unit. I think their heaters may be a little better, but I rarely use mine so definitely wasn’t worth the difference.

Was that for a new unit? I don’t need a heater. I stopped renewing the contracts for jobs that required it.

I just need mo’ powa’!

I’m not saying the Pressure Pro is the top of the heap. I think it’s an upper middle level machine which for 95% of the washers out there will do a great job for them. I and a few friends have had excellent results with them and the machines we’ve gotten have always met spec. If I were running mine 10 hours/per day for weeks on end I’d get @Innocentbystander 's guy to custom build me one. His is a beast. If I was ordering one today, I would certainly consider putting an Udor on it, though I’ve had no trouble with my pump so far. I paid $3450 including freight with a block mounted K7 unloader (which was about a $200) option. So for the money, I’m extremely happy.

I have not had any problems with mine. I did take it over to a shop that is a Landa dealer. He said the same, thing as IBS… So we hooked the tee and pressure gauge just before the wand and did a bucket test. They both (him and his landa rep) acted all surprised that it came real close to hitting the numbers. At the end of 350 foot of hose I was getting around 7 and a half gallons at around 3100 psi … That’s is with the 630. Now I know the math does not work but that’s the way it went. Now the Dealer (not pressure pro) said it would get 8 gallons at 3500, which I new would not happen. I also want to point out that the first 200 foot of hose is half inch. All in all for what I do it is just fine.

I went with Pressure Pro Honda 8gpm 24 hp 3500 psi and never will look back. Machine has been great!!!

This is very timely since I am looking at the same machine. Besides PSI and having a trapped unloader the difference is the more expensive of the two has the K7 unloader remotely mounted to the skid. Sorry that applies to the skid mounted unit the one you have pictured it the wheeled unit.

So it seems, and I checked with Honda, that myself and many others have been “mislead”.
The Honda GX690 is rated at 22.1 HP.
It IS a few more horsepower than their GX630 engine, but not by much.
I concede to others more knowledgable that some of the specs may be less than accurate.
However, I can personally attest to the Honda engine reliabilty, however I cannot attest to the reliabilty of General Pumps.
It does seem that a large number of contractors are using this pump brand, though, and it does seem to carry a five year warranty, not sure how good that warranty is.

or what about this one? http://shop.pressurewasherproducts.com/S-VB8035HGEA094TF-8-GPM-3500-PSI-K73-SKID-COLD-PRESSURE-WASHER-PWS-VB8035HGEA094TF.htm

which one would you choose out of each of those?

I’d steer clear of PWP on principle. Pretty much every vendor can sell you a pressure pro with a general pump. They are mass produced and dropped shipped. The water dragon has an udor but it is still on an aluminum skid with an aftermarket cheap muffler. I would personally save up another $500 and get a bullet proof one that will last a lot longer. With that you have to choose from here, I’d say water dragon because of the pump. Keep in mind, Honda does not make a 24 hp motor like PWP claims in its ad.

gotcha, really appreciate the input. could you maybe point me in a direction of this 500ish$ muffler replacement? i’m willing to do it the right way the first time.

I don’t know where you are but If you want a rock solid unit find a local landa or other dealer and spec out what you want. Udor, steel skid, OEM muffler if you go with Honda, unloader block, good unloader, a belt cover that can be removed in 5 minutes, a simple belt adjustment etc… Pressure pro makes a lot of money for contractors and if you know its limitations and aren’t going to run it 40 or 50 hours a week it may work for you.

these are right or left hand, depending on what you need. If you get a Honda make sure it has a good muffler. They attach in multiple points as opposed to hanging off the exhaust ports only, They dissipate heat quicker and allow more exhaust to pass thru.

I guess they changed up on the water dragon. Mine came with a steel skid and the belt housing it only 1 screw.

I do need to get the OEM exhaust though

Very good. The pic show aluminum. Sounds like a good deal then.

Just for kicks, have you ever just put a straight pipe exhaust on a pw? Just come off with the 2 exhausts and run into one like 3-4" pipe. Wonder what it would sound like or if those engines need back pressure to run right.

Can’t say for sure on PW but straight pipes with cold air on a hot engine can be a recipe for disaster for hot valves. Damage actually occurs when the engine is shut off and cold air, you get the idea. Granted new metalergy may make that moot but it was an issue for straight pipes years ago. That said ran into a PW and a subdivision where I do stain work for a builder. He was running a predator (690 knockoff) and he was running a straight pipes off the Chinese muffler straight into the air. Told me it let him go to work earlier since it was much quieter. We used the same idea with generators in the desert. Send the noise straight up, everyone’s happy except the people in the third floor…
