XJet Upgrade

Just upgraded from a 4 gallon per minute machine to an 8 gallon per minute machine.

Last year I bought an X jet kit for a 4 gallon machine.

My research indicates sizing up from a number 13 to a number 20 stainless steel orifice inside the X jet itself. Is that correct?

Can I use the same plastic inserts for dilution ratios or is the physical 3/8 nylon braided plastic tube also a different size on an 8 gallon X jet kit?

Skip it, get an injector. Better yet get @dperez injector he just designed.

I guess it depends on what he’s doing with the xjet to decide what he wants. I know with my 4gpm unit I was pulling close to 3 percent with my xjet wide open.

What are you using xjet for? That would probably help hone in what you want/need

Gotcha. Not sure either those ratios while xjetting. Have always batch mixed

I just got a call back from Ken at X jet today. They confirmed if you upgrade from a 4 GPM to 8 GPM machine a size 20 orifice is the only change you need to make for the X jet kit. Part number is OR 20.

Size 20 orifice supports psi‘s up to 3600. Anything above 3600 psi and 8 gallons per minute. Flow rate require a size 25.

An injector for what? I can’t control mix ratios on the fly with a fixed injector. Unless I were to have individual 5 gallon buckets with the injector attached, and a predetermined mixture in the bucket, to spray a certain percentage for things like sodium hydroxide or oxalic acid there isn’t really any advantage is there?

304 and 316 stainless don’t hold up well to oxalic acid anyway. acid corrodes the metal. They are only resistant for high alkaline mixtures.

Plus I believe the X jet threaded nylon hose is 3/8 not 1/4.

I will check out the YouTube video though simply out of interest. My question would be what percentage does it shoot?

1/4" is no slouch! The flow coeficient on it is 1.7 gallons a minute. 3/8" isn’t going to get anything to pull harder unless you’re pulling North of 2gpm from it.

What’s the maximum ratio on your injector? Best I can find on anything including Envirospec is roughly 20% or 5 to 1. That was on a 4 gallon per minute machine with a 2.1 mm orifice.

My understanding is a 2.3 mm and an 8 gallons per minute machine will pull roughly the same at about 20%

Do you make something like that? What is the body made out of of your injector? It’s stainless but what kind? 304, 316, etc…

You’d be well suited to read the injector thread. These injectors are not high draw injectors. They are the first of many. These will pull down to a 5.4:1 on a 4gpm. 316L

You will probably have to adjust which proportioning tips you use for the xjet, since it will draw a lower ratio at 8gpm than it did at 4. So just plan on doing some bucket tests and math.

I agree that the xjet is more convenient than a DS injector for certain situations. I use mine for applying OneRestore. But if you don’t have a DS injector for house-washing, you are severely missing out. So stinking convenient.

I swapped out the hose barb on my xjet with a mini ball valve (chemical resistant, of course; I use it to keep chem from siphoning out if I need to set the gun down) and a 1/4” barb. I threaded the end of the barb with a 8/32 tap, so I can use the same proportioning tips as I do for my GP stainless injector. They are way easier to swap in and out than the friction-fit tips that come with the xjet. And as @dperez points out, there’s very little if any flow loss by dropping to 1/4” draw hose, and it’s a bit less to move around with.

Edit: btw, Dez: this is one of those circumstances that’d be nice for remote throttle control. I definitely like to throttle down when applying OneRestore with the xjet. Too much of that stuff splashing around is noooo fun. But then I throttle back up to rinse.
